freitasm: Remember folks, the minute money flows to his account, lawyers will pounce on him as a "pirate" who's been using copyrighted material to make money for himself...

Oh - is that potentially the case is it? I have no doubt Freitasm that you will be in the know, so the warning is appreciated.

Crikey that's sad  if so. Seems Mr Dotcom is not the only one on certain companies radars.

The offer stands nonetheless. PM maybe.

Hey guys,

Well still no Orcon but I will just upload manually via 3g until I'm back online.

Thanks for the support everyone, I really had no idea that so many people were still using this file!

I'm not looking for donations or anything like that but thanks for the offers. It doesn't cost me anything to keep providing the file so  as long as I'm generating epg for my own media PC I'm happy to share!

@Asmodeus - I'll look into adding the missing channels you mention when I have some time. I might even get around to switching to epg collector while I'm at it :)

Also, I'd be happy if someone wants to create a better / more reliable guide service than mine or as a backup should mine disappear for any reason.

It's simple (and free) to do if you happen to have a sat dish and a DVB-S tuner card:

1. install epg collector to read the epg data from the sat feed and convert to xml format (I currently use DVB Guide but I'm sure EPG collector is a much easier alternative now)
2. Install dropbox (free) and copy the epg file to the public folder.
3. copy the dropbox public URL and share it with your mates!

yep, a whole lot of people seem to depend on your guide file, it's excellent.

If you ever do get a bit of spare time I would love if you put SBS Australia onto it.  In case you didn't know it's pretty easy to put SBS AU onto your MCE PC.  Just scan in these frequency's:

SBS1 : Optus D1 / 12646V / 12600

News, documentaries

SBS2:  Optus D1 / 12646V / 12600

News

SBS HD:  Optus D1 / 12646V / 12600

News, documentaries

If you could add these to your MCE PC and then download the guide for them as well it would be brilliant.

They are good channels, especially SBS1/SBS HD, full of excellent doco's.

Yes -  I've been using it for 4 - 5 years now I'd say, and lovin' it!

It's a shame Orcon are dicking you around but I certainly appreciate the effort you have gone to to keep the link up using 3G.

The info on how you do it too is neat - I was wondering how you did it. Definitely food for thought. Cheers.

Cheers a ton mate, and yeah, a simple set of scans with epg collector will grab everything out there :)

Hey Haventech, you had any luck with Orcon yet? My guide is almost empty now :( Not complaining, just wondering if you had an ETA? Cheers

That's pretty slack of them if it is taking this long

BTW Haventech, I've found Orcon respond best to tweets and some light whining on their facebook page. Definitely over emails anyway

Well, some of my guide appeared today, Trackside is now there so is TV3 and TV3 +1 but TV2 still has no listings... TVNZ7 is there.. my favourite channel! maybe something else has gone down and he has actually updated the guide? I will check my McE box maybe the listings for tv2 have gone whack.

I've just updated the epg file again so hopefully all good now. Sorry about that guys.

Still no internet despite finally receiving an email telling me I'm connected (3+ weeks after the order went through)... spent another 30 mins on hold this evening and the best Orcon could do is refer me to Telecom!

I must say that Orcon customer support seems to have gone seriously downhill since last time I had to deal with them. I've sent them two emails which have both gone unanswered and I've had to wait a minimum of 15 mins and up to 40 mins to get through to their friendly but ultimately useless support staff. Now I have to hope that Telecom actually call me tomorrow... Are there any ISP's left in NZ that don't suck?

Cheers mate. sounds like you're having a bad time with them though. Like I mentioned, I got better service for a fault by nagging them via twitter and facebook compared to phone and email.

Good luck!

haventech you should contact one of the orcon people on this site and see if they can sort stuff for ya
