Does mysky support cec to allow you to change the channel etc over the hdmi link? Probably can't use the advanced features though.

With the Belkin gadget you can use your MySky remote - or a suitably tweaked Logitech.

This is not HDMI, presumably it cannot do HD video.

It cant.

What I was saying was use this only for the IR and use the product in the other link I supplied for the HDMI connection. But as another member pointed out, it will cause interference on other devices that use the 2.4ghz range.

You can, however get these devices in 5ghz.

...

The other thing is, how hard is it to get another cable from point to point, because this will fix all of your problems...

Ah, gotcha, sorry for the misunderstanding.

I'm also interested in a mysky compatible hdmi/IR extender which runs over single cat5/6. No one knows if such a product exists.

You have to ask the question as to why sky have to throw such massive obstacles in their customers path? They could have used standard IR and everyone would be happy.    I suppose it is to maximise revenue but it certainly is an objectionable practice.  Monopoly providers can do what they want I suppose. Ranting over.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up running another CAT6, and have decided on the product in the Rapallo link. Now I just need a good deal on another TV. Hopefully some good easter specials...

Sure to be. I can't believe how much TV's have come down in price in the last year.

I'm assuming that you can't run one of these if you run the cat5 through a network switch?

You assume correctly. It's not ethernet.

Just to let people know..

I have this unit now..

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=109&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011012&p_id=8122&seq=1&format=2 and works well using MySky and IR Works.

My House is full Cabled up with at least 2 Cat6 in each room (and more in the lounge) so I used one of them for Extending HDMI (and the other will be for Network) in the location I have the extender. Run is about 50m (From Lounge -> Wiring Cabinet -> Bedroom)  but it can do about 100M if needed.

There is also a version which can do 100M Ethernet/IR and HDMI over 1 CAT6/5e Cable which would be useful if you have a TV which has ethernet one it as well and you only have 1 ethernet.

It is alot cheaper than anything else in NZ you can get which does similar (single CAT6/IR)
