OK im at a loss now, Fresh install, no updates, just drivers and one tuner. Setup WMC, didn't install play ready pc, ran EPG collector and it was perfect the whole way through. Restart the computer, watch TV, check guide and is all full of "." , re-run epg collector and check guide and its still messed up.

My only idea left is to point the aerial at a different station.

Have you switched off the in-band guide for each channel?

haha damn you beat me to it, and after all my testing!

After my last post I found the Inband guide toggle but toggling it and updating the EPG doesnt work as the inband data hangs around. I found a wipe EPG app that deletes the EPG so you can run epg collecter without it bring the inband data in, then you need to set the toggle to disable on the channels before you watch any.

Thanks SJB for your help, im so glad this is solve and I dont even have to get on the roof to reposition the aerial.

Inband toggle
Tasks>setting>TV>guide>Edit channel > *click on channel*> Edit listings >disable inband

Is there any way to permanently disable the inline scanning? Going in to 20 odd channels one at a time takes a while and it seem certain apps reset the flag

I'm in the process of Re-installing the OS as well. I'm going to try get all the updates done first, then tune WMC, then add the EPG and see if it works. If it does work, then I'll start adding the other programs in.

As far as the driver for the HVR2210 goes, I installed the driver only off the disc - haven't looked for an updated driver yet as I think that may be something I did around the time it all stopped working properly as well.

EDIT:

Oh, just read the inband toggle thing. Got a link for the app that clears it?

So, it never used to do this before and I'd never heard of that setting. What could be activating/re-activating it?

Of well, in any case there were a few update problems that needed sorting so my Windows re-install won't be a complete waste of time.

This issue is back, i've set every inband to disable but i noticed when watching TV2 it was getting some category info that wasn't there before. So I switched to FOUR and then the guide fills up with '.' again.

I can wipe the EPG, reimport it, resetup the channel logos and then disable every inband channel to get it back to normal but that takes forever. I'm trying some reg hacks to stop the inband guide but nothing so far.

Here are some hacks that worked for me

1. Browse to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\BackgroundScanner
Set "PeriodicScanEnabled" DWORD to 0. If not exist create the key.

2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\GLID
Set "DisableInbandScheduleLoading" DWORD to 1. If not exist; both (GLID branch and the DWORD) create.

3. If none of above works get the ownership of file mcglidhost.exe and rename it something else :) Not recommended :)

The reg keys and a reboot seem to have done the trick, im not even bothering with the inband toggle and I havent had any issues.
Hopefully it stays this way, thanks again.

i'm also having problems since the te aroha retune - using mediaportal with epg collector

after changing the frequencies for MP and for epg collector, some channels now show "no data available"

particularly tv1 tv2 tvnz7 and U

i can watch those channels though

looking in tvguide.xml all the data is there but MP is not picking it up somehow

the other channels are fine

have checked everything i can think of ...

if anyone has any ideas ...?

TVNZ channels may show four copies of the channel in the EPG Collector. Make sure you collect from all of them to ensure you get data (my experience is that only one version of each channel will have data - I think it is a regional ads thing). After that, open up TV Server configuration, go to the XMLTV plugin config section, go to the mappings tab, select the TV channel group containing your Freeview HD channels, and click Load/Refresh. You'll probably find that the TVNZ channels are not mapped (indicated by green in the fourth column). Reselect correct channels if necessary then click save. Go back to the first tab and click import. Give it 5 minutes and the data should start to show in the MP front end.

thanks for that - problem solved!

actually the real problem here is that i was looking in the MP back end under 'epg collector" when i should have been looking under plugins > xmltv as you describe ... Embarassed

I must be doing something wrong. Neither of those existed in my registry so I created them as follows.

1. Created a 32bit DWORD in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\BackgroundScanner named PeriodicScanEnabled and set hexidecimal to 0.

2. Created Key in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service, named the subfolder GLID and created a 32bit DWORD within called DisableInbandScheduleLoading with hexidecimal set to 0.

Have tried seperately and together, restarted, cleared the guide with the utility posted earlier and reloaded with EPG. I still get corruption of the guide after awhile and additionally WMC hangs when I've been watching recorded TV for awhile.

I haven't tried option 3.

Have you rebooted after the reg change? then cleared the Guide using the wipe tool and re-imported via epg collector?

Yes, but will try again when I get home just to make sure.
