ushare: Should all tvs have this overscan feature? It seems my tv doesnt :(

I haven't seen it in older TVs.  It used to be something that you needed to adjust at the video source, by means of driver software such as provided by NVidia.  My LG bought in 2008 had a 1:1 scaling or "Expand to fill screen" function which did much the same job, but wasn't referred to as overscan correction.

Will these units do1080i? I.e. FreeviewHD? could make as nice MediaPortal client.

I have nothing like that on my hdmi options. I have colour matrix, which is set to hd and cant be changed.

And I have VCR/GAME mode

It seems like the Intel HD4000 chipset is fairly limited in its capabilities compared to a full-blown GPU architecture like NVidia or ATI.

Many tv's don't actually specify overscan anywhere. Sometimes one way or another you tell it that input is a pc.

Back to NUC then (the TV overscan should be on its own discussion)... How does it decode 720p and 1080p video? No jumps, no freezes?

What OS are you folks using? I am told I will have one here next week so I was thinking of installing Windows 7 as it can boot directly to Media Center (which Windows 8 doesn't).

Anyone using a NUC with a DVB-T source, either USB or (in my case) a HDHomerun?

I have the basic Celeron model running win8 and it decoded a 720p mkv with VLC absolutely flawlessly, I could drag the window around the careen and it played while dragging and resizing without missing a beat. Intel 4000 hd graphics is pretty good with video.

It seems to stutter without bitstreaming a 1080p video

I dont have a dedicated avr so i am experiencing a bit of stuttering

I dont have a win 8 licence to use so Win 7 Pro for me. Going to throw 8Gb in it so need x64. My i3 will be here Monday. I went for the network port one.





The little things make the biggest difference.

to me 1080i is the toughtest test even the raspberry pi will do 1080p I think. All depends on weather you wath broadcast TV I guess.

Just received the Intel NUC, with a 160 GB mSATA SSD. It came "memory-less" so I've added 4GB I had here handy and going to install Windows 7 Media Center later today. This thing is tiny!





Wireless card built-in, three USB ports, one HDMI port, no ethernet.

Does yours have the Thunderbolt connector then? 

I'd have to say I'd always prefer to have Ethernet but wireless is getting better and better.
