cyril7: Hmm, have not noted it at all on any of my decoders. As its Parliment and Stratos but not TVNZ I wonder if the encoders they are using are different (a reasonable presumption) and also the way they react with the stat mux may be causing a break in the stream, however that does not explain why I have not noticed this nor many others.

TVNZ is on a different mux and different headend, maybe also different encoders
Not sure if they have a stat mux, but if they do, it would only stat mux TV ONE, TV2, TVNZ6, Maori TV and Sports Extra (all on that same headend)

The other stat mux on the other transponder ony stat muxes Stratos and Parliament TV.

No problems on Topfield TF6400IR. Both channels clear as. Although Stratos has VHS quality feeds from Optus B3.

If there is no built-in h/w MPEG2 decoder, then that could be really sucky. I gave up on software DVD MPEG2 decoding long ago. I wonder how much rain fade affects the processing requirements?

Artifact you are quite right, however Stratos and Parliment are with TV3/4, and have no problem with them.

Just listing to Stratos now, its a really poor feed out of Thailand (TGN), however I see no issues with the feed (other than what exisits in its source) on either my Strong, a very old Coship and our Pace DS230 Sky box.

like I have said before, this issue seems to be particularly noticeable when recording. Cyril, you might onto something when you mention about "The fact that the sound is choppy, is it because the PCR is not correct or not loaded at all, the PCR is used to sync the A and V streams."

Basically no DVB-S cards have hardware based decoders at the moment. My HVR1300 does, but that's only analogue and DVB-T. PC cards use software muxes to decode the signal.

This weekend, I must try and tune Parliament and Stratos into the Hauppauge software to see if it's the same as GB-PVR.

I use a NovaS plus and the sound was very choppy on stratos and TV3/C4 until just recently. I re formatted the HDD and reinstalled everything (due to various reasons), and it is fine now. I cannot explain, but if you minimize MCE (or whateverelse you use to watch TV) and bring up the task manager, arrange the proccesses by CPU intensity. You'll notice a process(no idea now what it is or what it does, but i assume it is a decoder) that is constantly jumping up and down the list. In my case, everytime it jumped up (more CPU intensive) the sound stuttered. It still moves up and down the list now, but not as much, and now it does not cause the sound to stutter, prob because I have less programs and clutter on at the moment. I will advise if I install something that causes this to change. BTW, disabling my anti-virus (PC-cillin 07) lessened the effect of the problem, and I have not reinstalled it yet (waiting for Tech support to undo the registration so i can reinstall)

Hi, when I was researching Sat cards to buy, DVB-S cards that is, there were definately ones that had on board i.e. hardware decoding. I have a skystar 2 from germany which doesnt, the reason I chose this one was that many sites said that with the speed of chips these days hardware decoding was not required. Infact the 3.2 ghz chip I'm running was deemed major overkill. It does depend on what else is being run and it is certainly not recommended to have a virus scanner checking the stream that is being decoded.

I still haven't managed to get uyp on the roof to try and check/improve my skew, the weather isnt playing nice. But since I re-scanned my channels the stuttering has gone away so there is less incentive to play with something that is already working.

I'd be very surprised to see a DVB-S card with an MPEG2 hardware video decoder??? If anything that would be a function of a highend video card. A DVB-S card is really more like a network card than a video device. And yes even a modest PC will decode MPEG2 quite happily. What mpeg2 codecs have you tried?

I'll see if I can find the card I was referring too, it is entirely possible that I am mistaken as that was early days before I decided on the skystar. I'm currently using the latest ATI codec that came with my video card to decode video and an AC3 audio one. I didnt notice much difference changing between the codecs that were avaliable on my machine.
