I saw no benefit with either, unless there's a way on introducing the data that gracenote/plex needs to covert movies to shows.

You're using their EPG or XMLTV?  Where does your XMLTV come from (if epg collector, maybe I have different settings turned on).  Also I just did a delete DVR and added again, and the EPG I get to choose is listed as Vodafone.  But it doesn't seem to have any channels listed.

Just updated the EPG again and I see a category of "Series Soap" but it still insists it's a movie.  The problems this causes is that it tries sticking it in a Videos library rather than Series based, also it doesn't open up the options for recurrence.

I create and host a few XMLTV files for Freeview.
Updated nightly.

They are for TvHeadend / MythTV but might work with Plex.

Yeah i've found masterchef australia under upcoming movies.  The chase listed as a 1994 movie, Home and Away a 1956 movie

its a waste of time really, theres so many things missing in the plex program guide that are in the xmltv that are not showing up in plex, switching to xmltv hasent really resolved any of these issues

compared to just using Gracenote.

I still find it a waste of time.  It would be ok if I wanted to record american tv shows, or a movie.  For local/aus stuff I find it useless .

Well, well well, I may have to eat my words.  I've done a couple of server updates, and then decided to give it another go today to record Survivor NZ for my son (bit late for him to be up, and the TVNZ ondemand experience is pretty crap at the moment).  An lo and behold it finds it, and some of the other annoyances I had (Shorty's didn't show up as a tv show, but a movie, fixed, hmm masterchef australia still wrong though and Britains Got Talent not there either).  So its getting better.

Pity they never gave us a process for helping them get it fixed.

it was extremely flakey

I haven't tried it for live tv, prefer my own nextpvr channel - that does that the (dis?)advantage of needing nextpvr installed and running, but I'm a windows shop and nextpvr has many more tuner types available compared to plex.  I wouldnt' mind plex being able to record though.
