I'm hoping the monthly cost isnt crazy, and that they dont expect $800 up front.

We would probably get it for sport if it was an okay cost, and the added benefit of mysky is good too.

It shouldnt cost extra than your current Sky monthly fee. Would they just stop supplying the orginia mysky and charge extra for myskyHDi?

I'm sure i heard that there is an extra monthly fee for having HD.

And who said they were going to scrap the original? Perhaps they will offer the HDi without HD just for mysky.

I want to know if they are going to discontinue the original (current) Mysky boxes and only supply the MyskyHDi boxes. I'd assume the one off fee for the standard mysky boxes should drop.

Take this with a grain of salt but I've heard a rumor that they plan to have all customers on PVR by 2012 so I doubt they will scrap MySky 1. IMO, expect the old boxes to be discontinued (i.e. the ones that can't do component out).

Also, my parents who live in Italy have SkyHD on Sky Italia and pay around NZ$15 extra a month for the SkyHD content. To switch from MySky to MySkyHD they paid around NZ$200. The box they have is made by Pace but is not what Foxtel is advertising for iQ2. That just to give you an idea. All we can do is wait and see - can't be too far away now.

Does anyone know what type of interconnects the docoder will comprise of. Composite, SVHS, Component, HDMI ???

In the UK, its £249 (NZ$630) for the box, £60 (NZ$150) setup, and £10 (NZ$25) per month.

Hope it's not that expensive here. If you banged a $ where the £ is, it might be more palletable.

Just be aware the above STB is of the Foxtel iQ2 cable version (foxtel run both cable and sat feeds, boxs are same other than tuner arrangment) hence it only has one F connector, the satellite version as we will get here has two Fconnectors to feed an internal multiswitch to feed all four tuners.

Foxtel has announced that the current iQ (our MySky) will become the standard STB from now on, the iQ2 (our MySky HDi) will be the premier product, so its PVRs all round, I suspect Sky will eventually follow.

The current MySky has two tuners, therefore a splitter is placed before the STB to feed both tuners. Because all our current viewed tranponders are on the same polarity a simple splitter allows each tuner to see whatever mux it wishes.

The MySky HDi has four tuners each fed via a 2x4 multiswitch, as such no seperate splitter will be required, and only one of the inputs on the back of the STB need to be connected. However in the Australian situation there are both H and Vpol transponders in use, therefore a dual output LNB is connected to the two inputs of the mulitswitch of the STB to enable any tuner to see any mux it likes.

Based on the payloads carried by Optus D1 I doubt we will see any use of Vpol here in NZ, any expansion of tranponder use is likely to come from low band (11.7-12.25GHz) transponders on D3 that will fly at 156E with Optus C1, this would potentailly require two LNB feeds to allow access to both orbit locations as desired, once again using the internal 2x4 multiswitch to do the routing. Exactly what happens in this respect is unknown and this is only speculation, time will tell.

Sky spokesman Tony O'Brien said it will be offered on the same terms of contract as the existing MySky box and that a "compelling arrangement" would be on offer for existing MySky users looking to upgrade.

Anyone know whether Sky plan to broadcast the HD programs on TV1/2/3 in HD when they start broadcasting in HD? I know they said only 2 sports and 2 movies channels, but surely it can't be hard or costly to broadcast the existing HD content?

I just really don't want to have to get a Freeview DVT box as well as MySky HD.
