FFS Still nothing from LG, so I contact them again... OMG had to go through everything with them again!! Even after I quoted my case number.. "Have you tried a different cable...." "Have you tried this setting...."

But seems I might have got somewhere this time. Seems they are going to send someone out to check the TV. Was heartening to see them quote that they will fix it under the CGA, with the normal disclaimers "If you broke it you have to pay...."

Also they said the agent will "contact me in the next 48 business hours", so is that two days or six days?? lol

@tockly Two steps forward, one step back - but you’re making progress and their reference to CGA is excellent news. Maybe they’re quietly aware of this sort of problem with the C7 and Beam. They probably don’t have a new C7 to replace your one - so maybe you’ll end up with a C9. 😀👍

@eracode Not going to hold my breath on getting a C9 at this stage, but if they can't fix it that'll be what I'll be pushing for, given this is the second issue I have had (My original was replaced due to a faulty panel). Not really good enough for a $6500 TV.

I love the picture quality and WebOS of the LG, just a shame a couple of fairly major issues have soured the purchase somewhat.

I have a mate that has a C7 also and he's now back from holiday so popping over to try the bar on his TV. Will be interesting if I get the same result!

Just out of interest, did you get a chance to try this?

Not yet. Heading over this weekend. He's in the Wairarapa and I'm in Wellington.

So popped over to my mates place and unsurprisingly his C7 behaved exactly the same way as mine.

Still yet to hear anything from the service company so might give them a poke in the ribs today.

Sloppy wording - I’m sure that is meant to be interpreted as “two business days” - but of course that doesn’t mean they’ll meet the promise. That was Wed last week so they’re possibly already overdue.

Short answer - do what i did and give up.

I had the same issue connecting an LG C8 model with the Bose 500 sound bar.

Tried absolutely EVERYTHING that was suggested on the numeorous Bose forums dedicated to this issue (HDMI ARC not working) . Search for the same issue with the Bose soundbars and you'll see what i mean. Tried new cables, turn this off, make sure that is on blah blah all pointless.

There is definitely a problem with the HDMI ARC port on the LG OLED's and no one seems to know what it is. Save yourself some time - surrender to the inevitable and just connect it via the optical port which is what i ended up doing as i didn't want to change either of the hardware. If you do happen to find a solution, please let us know!.

OTH we have Sonos Beam running via the HDMI ARC on an LG C8 and it works fine. I know that doesn’t mean or prove anything - except maybe the inconsistency of ARC on LG tellies.

We also have Sonos Playbar running via optical from an LG C9 - but optical is a less-problematical arrangement. (Playbar does not have HDMI).

Yep you are absolutely right, inconsistency indeed; from other posts seems like pot luck whether it will work or not. You can easily age 2 years before finding out it doesn't work on a particular setup. Really frustrating and quite frankly inexcusable. I see doing a hard factory reset on the TV might fix it, could be worth a shot.

TBH I was tempted to give up, but on the other hand I paid $6500 for a TV that appears to be faulty and as such I would like it put right. If this was a $500 TV I'd suck it up and move on. But when you're investing in a premium unit you expect things to function as described.

And also given the fact the Eracode has the exact same system running on a slightly newer model does give me some small glimmer of hope.

Did you log a call with LG before giving up? Might be worth a shot if not.... If we as consumers just give up and let them get away with things like this then are things ever going to change? I know I'm just one person in a little country at the bottom of the world, but every little bit helps.

The trouble was i didn't know whether it was an LG or a Bose issue. There are a lot of forums with Bose users not being able to connect to the LG via the HDMI ARC port and end up resorting to optical which certainly isn't ideal but i don't lose much in terms of sound quality so it is the next best solution. As said, it appears to be completely pot luck whether it will work or not, some get it working, others can't. For what you've paid though, i would definitely be following it up with LG, but be prepared for the "it's the soundbar causing the problem" response...... there aren't that many settings on the TV to play with.

@Tockly Re “$500 TV and suck it up”: Friends of ours bought a new $700 Panasonic LED Smart TV earlier this year. At the same time they bought (new) a Panasonic soundbar and sub set to go with it.

You would expect same-brand stuff to work together well out of the box. But no, the audio gear, which connected via HDMI ARC, would not play with the TV at all. They spent weeks with the vendor and then with Panasonic trying to resolve the problem - very similar to your problem. In the end Panasonic replaced the TV and it worked fine.

All I’m saying is: maybe HDMI ARC is a flakey tech generally - and possibly not just for LG.

Maybe?

There's a reason I've never met an AV installer who recommends ARC... get it working, great!

Will it stay working?

Probably not...

For a $6k tv they should be coming out and sorting it out and cooking you dinner end of. , I have the 65" C8 connected via arc to the LG SK10Y sound bar and have had zero issues.

That is a lot of money for a TV and I would expect them to step up to the mark and get it sorted.
