yeaaaaaahh:

Thanks mate, just picked mine up too!
Now just gotta find an/the ethernet adapter.

What's the story about adapters?
Is that to power it?

Hi Y,

Did you find a source for the small ethernet adapter?

Also do any know of a 6 to 8 type multi-port adapter that works well with the Chromecast with Google TV?

Just got my one courtesy of a friend in the US who mailed it to me

A few points

1. If you can set it up on 5Ghz, do that as it didn't work that well on 2.4GHz. In fact in a long chat session with Google support I ended up having to factory reset itm switch phone and device t 5GHz before the Google Home app could see it

2. The remote is okay but the home key is not as easy to press as a Firestick

3. The device my friend bought came with 6 months of Netflix credit - that was also was not easy to redeem but I did manage to do that (method not a topic for this forum :-)  )

Ichiu,
Were you able to set your region to NZ? Did it have any kind of restriction/limitation due to the fact you are in NZ?

It didn't care. The only time it seemed to care was when I tried to redeem the Netflix offer

https://store.google.com/us/product/chromecast_google_tv

That seemed to geo restricted but once I worked around that I got the credit applied and that no longer required geo amendments

Having now used it for a while, I actually find the Firestick 4K to be more responsive and the control more substantial. The buttons seem more solid on the Firestick abd certainly the Enter button is easier to press than on the Chromecast. But being a Google device it's nice to have the Assistant right there and it was easy to have it learn the main controls for my soundbar so I can control volume and inputs from the remote directly without having to use another remote.

Since the reason I got it was to see if I could watch NF USA (and I can't) and I bought two(!) I might just sell them both.

I have two arriving tomorrow that I purchased from Kogan so the AU models. Been looking for a decent device running Android TV. Have tried all of the others on the market (apart from the Fire Stick).

NVIDIA Shield has been awesome but overly priced! Keen to see what these can offer!

Thanks for your reply Ichiu.
I guess performance is the most important thing to me. How can I get an Amazon fire here in NZ?

US$29 at the moment on Amazon as part of a Black Friday deal.  Youshop would be about $30 though so if you can find a few friends who want them, that might be a better shipping deal.

I must admit, I was a little unsure what this thing's difference to previous Chromecasts was.
Linus Tech Tips has a good overview of what it can do.

TL;DR is "great except if you want to game on it"

I bought the new 2020 Chromecast with Google TV (CCGTV) from eBay.

It was delivered within about 2 weeks and works perfectly - great device!

Mine arrived before. Connected one of them up and as expected. Impressed already. Easy setup etc.

I like that it’s running the latest version of Android TV. Th Shield does not have V10 yet. Google’s new launcher is simple but most importantly is the seamless integration with my Samsung Frames. Just works and I can use my TV remotes to control the CC. HDMI-CEC just works. Have had heaps of issues with the other devices.

This is my first experiene with Google TV and I have not tried to install any software. But in terms of just accessing NF, Prime, YT etc. I think I find the Firestick remote easier to use.  It is more substantial and the Enter button easier to press and avoiding pressing the navigation button. And thhe FS seems a bit snappier in response.

But the Firestick is a bit closed so the Chromecas easier to modify. For example I might try to install Kodi on it and then the NF app to see if it less restrictive than the native NF app.

I do like the fact I could setup the Chromecast to control my soundbar, volume, on/off and input selection.
