Appreciated the advice.

So it comes down to a $3500 projector including screen vs a 55" OLEd.

The TV is much cheaper, but its hard to beat a projector for value for money. I want an inky black one so will have to find something the aforementioned brand listed above.

Will keep the current 55" and possibly use it as a wall image display most of the time, being LCD it will last a good amount of time.

I know what I can get for my money thanks to some suggestions here. But Im prob going make $3k for my OLED TV. A lot in this choice, sammy, panasonic, lg etc. I think what the display comes with built in plus its interfaces to other devices and speakers is important, most important is the System Display for connectivity and easy of use

Is the LG C1 series any good?

They look hella classy and the IQ appears to be good.

But for $500 less you can get the new Panasonic 55" Panasonic TH-55HZ1000. which has gotten a lot of good reviews online. "the choice of hollywood film makers" haha, I dont know how much truth there is in that but it all sounds good.

The C1 "Game mode" drastically changes things, turns a 4k hdr 120hz down to 5.3ms, mind blowing.

I know other OLEDs are around 20ms and the reality is for most of us thats fine. But it certainly is a bonus.

I briefly checked the sports mode and that has something useful to provide too.

No they are not cheap, the 48" is $3200. You can get a panasonic TH-55HZ1000 55"for $2700.

The TH-55HZ1000 is getting great reviews too. So I figure, I can get an Xbox One S for the price difference and I have a larger screen.

Inlaws just got a 55 OLED. I checked it out on the weekend. Great picture but prefer my 1080p projector throwing a 86" image

Just don't expect a $2k projector to provide "inky blacks and dazzling HDR", the real world contrast performance of cheaper LCDs just isn't up to it and they don't have enough lumens / nits for dazzling HDR performance. Don't get me wrong, I'm a long time advocate of projectors and bang for buck, a 100+ inch screen will offer far more immersive experience,  but you just have to keep your expectations seated in reality.

Agree re not inky back - but my eyes and this review suggests you can get a pretty darn good 135inch experience for $2.3k NZD (excl screen).

Note: There are others for similar price points more suited to HT environs - and with blacker blacks.

FYI: JVC projectors are world famous for their 'inky blacks' and superb contrast images, something I can confirm myself even with my own low-range (but still highly regarded) older model, which also does faux 4k and can do HDR. Of course this requires a totally blacked out room for maximum optimal picture quality, if you have a dedicated HT room or don't mind making your main lounge more suitable there are a range of newer JVC models that can get close to OLED picture quality.

But there's no way I would ever go back to using a Television smaller than 100" for my movie/tv series enjoyment, and considering you can go up to 200" if one had the space, just wow!

Blurtie:

Also just stumbled across this at PB Tech - Philips 55' OLED for $2688. Not sure of the quality at all, but seems like a reasonable price for a 55' OLED panel..

AV World offered me this for <2500 today.

My 4K JVC projector is just fantastic. I have had a few projectors over the years, and I have to say, this JVC thrashes everything else projector wise I've owned, relative to age and technology. The only wish list thing would have been 120hz :)
