Just one thing I need confirmed can you use any sky card or does it need to be a 45xx card.

Sorry M, I've only got the 4500 card to try it out on (changed out from 17xx when we got a HDi to trial).

There was a long thread on this subject some time back, with from memory 17xx being very problematic, however that was before anyone was using NewCS to read the card.

Maybe someone could jump in with their 17xx experiences?

Total newb question, but how do you tell the difference between the cards? i.e. How do I know which one I have?

Look on the back of the card (the white side).

It will have numbers like: NZ4500xx etc. The '45' is the indicator.

Hey guys, stumbled across this thread on my epic journey to get f0xtel working on my mediapc.

I'm actually using MediaPortal rather than MCE, but it should have worked just the same. I got everything working until DVBLink. It just simply refused to work nicely with mediaportal. I've actually got everything working very nicely with the unofficial MDAPI 2009 plugin. ( http://www.zshare.net/download/625811178f26c857/ )

Anyway, time to share some info.

Using a OmniKey 3021 PC/SC usb reader and newCS 1.67 on my ubunu linux fileserver. Omnikey provide drivers on their website. You'll need to install pcsc tools and pcsc lite to get it going. When you try the install it lets you know everything you need. Some basic linux experience installing from tarballs required (otherwise its a 5min job). Running pcsc_scan will show if your reader and/or card is detected. newcs config is similar to the one in this thread.

MDAPI has a readme.pdf that shows you how to install it step by step. Then you just chuck the acamd files into the folder which has .mdpluginsgohere file in it.

If you want to record multiple channels from the same transport stream, you'll need to edit MDAPICards.xml and change the MDAPI = "1" bit to say 6, if you want to record/watch upto 6 chanels from one stream simultaneously. Next time the TVServer is started, it'll create 6 seperate folders, into which you put 6 lots of acamd. **You'll need a seperate user/pass in newcs for each instance** If you try and log in with the same user it will boot off the previous connection, and the 2-6 instances will have a login war.

You can do the same for multiple tuners as well.

My cardreader was $30AU off ebay ;) Works with NDSCam under windows too if you install Omnikeys PC/SC drivers.

DVB-S PCI cards were $50-60 each. Prof 6200 PCI but only have 32bit drivers. (I'm using Win7 btw)

For anyone in Perth, tuning details for Optus C1 are LOF1 = 9750 MHz | LOF2 = 10700 MHz | LNBSW = 10700 MHz

I'd be happy to write up a guide some time if anyone wants it. It'll be mediaportal specific since the MDAPI plugin works directly with MP TV server to tune channels. I'm not too sure if the USB card readers would work in a virtual machine either. newCS 1.65 DOES support PCSC under windows though :)

Hi all,

Finally got around to trying to set up yesterday, but newcs doesn't seem to want to co-operate. This is what the screen is showing.

Hi Tb

Bit weird but your console is at least giving output. Perhaps try setting the 'debug' options to this:

mode>simple</mode>

level>internal</level>

type>all</type>

output>console</output>

and then run to see.

You could also try:

output>console,file>

logfile>/hdd/newcs.txt</logfile>

where "/hdd/" is a convenient directory to store the newcs.txt log.

EDIT: Had to remove the "<" from the front of each line, it causes the post to go ballistic otherwise!

Had a serious go at setting all this up.

Managed to get the tuner working in DVBViewer and receiving the unecrypted channels (TVSN, Expo, NITV).
