It uses the first tuner it comes across - change request number 1 no doubt.

I got the format of the XMLTV file from the (apparently defunct) MHEG2XMLTV project which I had downloaed some months ago so I'll be interested to see if it's right.

It sounds as if it runs the Directshow graph ok - that stuff can be a pain in the arse to debug.

Steve

Hi Rusty,

I'll have another version for you later today, hopefully a bit more successful than the poor first effort (I've actually tried testing it this time!).

It had a fault in it that meant it didn't detect all the Sky stations on a frequency which explains most of the missing Sky EIT data.

As for the MHEG data there seems to have been a dll missing from the s/w I gave you but I'll sort that today.

I've added functionality for selecting the tuner, the ini fle to use and the name of the output file.

Regards

Steve

The first tryout version of the EPG Collector is available for download on Sourceforge. It is in the form of a Windows Installer package.

It is a command line utility designed for running overnight to collect EIT or MHEG5 data and create an XMLTV format file. it has been briefly tested on XP/Vista/W7 (32 and 64 bit) for both DVB-S and T.

It has not been seen to work with a hybrid card (HVR 3000) so if someone could try it again it would be appreciated. Don't expect too much though.

Typical run times are as follows:

Freeview MHEG - 40 secs
Freeview EIT - 1 min
Sky EIT - 6 min.

The code will be open source in in the very near future.

All feedback appreciated. I've got a thick skin so criticise away.

Regards

Steve

Is it possible to provide the complied .exe and dll files without the need to install using a .msi file?

I note it installs to \program files\Geekzone\
You may want to check that freitasm is happy for you to do this.

Yes, but there are a few other files as well - example ini files and readme.

Any reason you wouldn't want to run an msi? It doesn't install any filters or change any settings etc

Sorry to be negative, I cant test till I get home so can only say what I dont like based on what you have provided.

Uploading a zip file will allow people who are not able to install software to view the file contents.
I note the readame says

5. The second command line parameter (/ini=filename) identifies the ini file to be used. It is optional and the default is
EPGCollector.ini. If the filename contains it must be enclosed in quotes (eg /ini="a file name.ini").

There is no default file called EPGcollector.ini provided in the install. This prevents a user clicking go and having it work right out of the box (could work for either Freeview HD or Freeview right "out of the box").

That's not negative - it's constructive.

Maybe both a zip and an msi then.

I'll add the default ini to the others so a user can do freeview mheg out of the box.

Just tried it with my Pinnacle PCTV NanoStick running on Windows 7 32bit.
A xmltv file was successfully created.
I then imported into Big Screen EPG, and it was imported perfectly into 7MC :D

Great work on this little app!

Would the frequency you use change depending on what part of the country you are in?  I'm in Christchurch and get no stations processed when I run the app, exit code 0.

Changed the frequency to 682000 and it is now doing something for the TVNZ channels.
