We took a peak at HN today. Looked really good. They had Monsters vs Aliens (I think) playing. There was a scene with a bat and ball on a string toy, where the ball was bouncing out of the screen. Very cool. :-)
One thing I did note watching M vs A at JBHF was that the glasses knocked back the brilliance about the same as changing from 'normal' to 'cinema' mode. I put it down to the shuttering affect of the glasses alternately shading each lense. Even when watching in 2D the M vs A blu-ray has a 3D feel to it. I might have to watch it on my conventional setup to assess what the new TVs are offering.

Best to wait for this tech to not only come down in price but wait for better 3-D TVs - at this stage I'd say anyone who has got a nice LCD should stick with it.

Yeah, i was and early adopter of blu-ray (and hd-dvd) but i'll wait for 3D TV. I have no doubt hardware prices will come down, even as soon as this xmas, but 3D contents is the key. Waiting for Avatar 3D or Toy Story 3 3D on blurays, and sports broadcasts in 3D.
Samsung are really hiking the price, the 50" Plasma Model which sells for $3499 NZD here in NZ, sells for $2499 AUD in Aussie, with today?s exchange rate is about $2900NZD, how can they justify the extra $600 per set?, I doubt shipping and import duties account for this huge increase.
You could just about fly to Aussie buy one, pay the NZ GST and still be slightly better off, not to mention a free holiday to Australia for your troubles.
Would like to hear an explanation from Samsung about this.
and not to mention if you buy a 3D set in Aussie you can also grab an extra 2 sets of Glasses and a Bluray player as part of a promotion they are currently doing.

I totally agree - The price of 3D TVs and not to mention other home entertainment are ridiculously priced. There is no justification as to why the prices in NZ should be that high.
I checked out the 3D demo in the Wellington Sony Store a couple of weeks ago. They keep the glasses behind the counter but you don't usually have to ask for them - as soon as you hover in front of the demo, sales staff appear with a pair of specs in hand. I don't think Sony expect the sets to be out until June or July.
They had a few different bits of 3D content: - The "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" animated movie, - Some wildlife content with red pandas and swimming polar bears, and - A game, but sorry - can't remember which one.
I would have liked to see some 3D sports coverage. I know Sky are putting 3D TVs into pubs in the UK and broadcasting 3D football, etc. but not sure which technology they're using - I can't see them handing out the expensive battery operated alternating shutter glasses to 100 drunk English football fans.
I also believe the World Cup in South Africa is being filmed for 3D broadcast, but of course, will Sky NZ broadcast it that way?
But this Samsung ability to convert 2D content to a 3D image is intriguing. I might check that out this weekend...
Anyhoo, the ultimate question is: Would I buy one? Right now, no. I'll wait for the technology (and prices) to settle down a bit, and the amount of true 3D content to increase.

A BluRay player? Are you sure? I just checked out the Aussie Samsung website and it said you get two pairs of glasses and a BluRay DISC... A bonus player would be a big thing... Especially as you get the glasses + disc in NZ if you buy a TV. Apparently there aren't going to be many around though, may only last 3-4 weeks before you have to buy your own glasses.
