ushare: I dont need the other channels, and its just too much. What can I say to them, so they will give me Star Plus with the free to air package? Please helpme out here. Thanks.

Don't be cheap and just get the Vision Asia package.  You won't just get the indian channel on sky, you must get the basic package first.  In that case you might as well get Vision Asia and get lots more indian channels.  If you want it, you have to pay for it.  I have Vision Asia and am completely satisfied with the package.

Get out the pack of cards and deal with it.

This is how it works in NZ.  SKY TV show the stuff you want and are the only company who do in NZ, so they can charge what they want for it.  Zero competition.  They can also structure their offerings in such crap ways as to make you pay for 50 other channels of crap you're not interested in.

For access to sport in SD it's $66 per month, based on $16 for sport and $50 for their 'base package'.
That's $792 per year, not including the intial installation.

The satellite game can work, but as I said way earlier, it's far more suited to countries that are close to lots of other countries to assist with some signal spill over.  Little old NZ is a long way from the action so you need a big dish, if you're able to 'see' the satellite at all.

If you can't see another viable satellite, the only alternative to SKY is some rebroadcast on the computer if you're lucky.  The key really is to either just pay the TV/sports tax, forget about it and enjoy the content, or live without it.
I know it sucks, but really that's simply just, the, way, it, is.

You are lucky to have access to so many Hindi/Urdu and Tamil television stations in New Zealand. With many langauges there'll be only one or two stations on the satellite, often only available with a very pricy subscription. It is only by chance that the situation for Desi stations in New Zealand didn't turn out to be like that. When moving countries you leave things behind, there is no way around that.

If you're willing to pay the price the best option may be to find a professional satellite installer who'll install 3m and 90cm satellite dishes for Asiasat 3s and Optus D2, buy an MPEG-4 and IRDETO CAM compatible receiver, and negotiate a reduced connection fee from Vision Asia (usually at least $500).

For the month of July Vision Asia are running a promotion where the installation is free.  Therefore you just need to start paying the monthly subscription fee and installation is $0!!!

$0 installation for Vision Asia is a really good deal. That should include dish for Optus D2, receiver and installation. I think cokeman is including the price of the receiver in that?
