I have an Apple TV and HD movies are about the 4GB vicinity, so as you can imagine we don't download too many movies each month!
For NZ the biggest restraint is going to be our low data caps.

I'm on a 102GB / month quota with Orcon. That costs me about $120 / month.

It's worth it. We do whatever we want and don't worry about data.....and none of us download all day and all night.

How is it so cheap? Or does that not include your phoneline?

You don't need a VPN for a US iTunes account, I have one and use it often, and it works fine.

However there is the small overhead to buy the top up vouchers, and for the next few months I have double data through Telecom (80GB) which could go a long way towards this kind of content/data.

But yeay, I know what you mean, sometimes it's just easier to get content that isn't available locally via a torrent. It's stupid, but that's another argument, and I don;t want to hijack the thread!

Yeah I know, I'm talking VPN for geolocked streaming services like Hulu, etc...or whoever decides to jump onboard as a provider.

with the likes of hulu, netflix etc on apple tv or any other media streaming device in NZ, how would one manage to watch these services even with VPN? VPN software would install/work on a pc/laptop and work fine on them but with media streaming hardware which are going via your router, you would need to define VPN credentials in the router itself so any device attached to it like apple tv gets a US IP address. Only such hardware service I know of is from witopia.net which provide a cloakbox router running tomato/dd-wrt firmware but it costs US$199 and they only ship to USA.

Do whatever you want to do man.

I've read a few negative comments from the US around there being no hard drive in the new version, and how rentals will not work on the old version, but for me personally the lack of storage doesn't bother me too much.

My wife is a flight attendant so she buys the gift cards when she flys to the US, and I used to use them to buy a lot of TV shows from the US store that we either don't get in NZ at all, or we're months behind, or they're not broadcast in HD here, so being able to rent them for 99c and then choosing which series I want to buy will be great and makes the new Apple TV more suited for how I consume my media. Hopefully more networks come on board to expand the library of shows though.

Anything I want to buy I'll be happy to leave stored on the iMac and stream when necessary.

I was thinking that I could use one for streaming music videos, but then I figured that a Mac Mini would be more useful as it would also give me the ability to play video from TV3 On Demand.
