I will get some pictures of it tonight. On the plus side, the badge comes off easily and the surface underneith is uniform so you cant tell that there was a badge there

Aren' t the warehouse getting paid by the government/ taxpayers to manage the handling of these tvs being returned. Then they are giving a discount off people buying new ones off them. They do have a bit of a captive audience there.

So was it better value than you could have got for a brand name TV when retailers have their sales? You can get a sony 22 inch for $399 which is pretty good value for a top brand

I had heard that with at least some of the no name tvs, they use panels that have been rejected by the brand named ones, eg they may have dead pixels etc.. Would be interested to hear how good the quality is. The whole 'badge' coming off however isn't a good look.

I think it is fairly standard for the power cable to be fixed on tvs, it is however different for monitors.

It means when I wall mount it I either have to shorten the power cable and deal with hassles if warranty needs come up, or bundle it up behind the TV. Would want to change the plug for a side entry one anyway. This is a 24, was 399 but 20% of came to 320something. Not sure if the sonys have a media player in them at that price and the sony media player was damn useless on the bigger one I tried anyway

I think the inbuilt media players in TV are pretty hopeless anyway with limited formats, and the inbuilt hardware isn't grunty enough with quite a bit of lag. I would suggest one of those media boxes, such as a WD live box.

My new sony one however isn't that bad although a lot more expensive, and does support divx and exFAT filesystem allowing large files.

Has played all the avi, mkv and a mov that I tried without issue so far, has a direct seek to time and can change the aspect etc.

1080 mkv clip worked fine, not tried a NTFS formatted drive yet but it says it works in the book, so not tested a full HD BDrip file or anything yet. just need a USB extension cable since the socket is virtually impossible to get to without picking the tv up and turning it over ;)

Ive found kindof a real issue with it. There is no actual brightness control. The brightness and contrast appear to just stuff the image up when not on 50, like the ones you have in the ati/nvidia control panel on a PC instead of using the ones on your monitor.

So in a dark room its way too bright, turning the brightness down just seems to basically be like dragging the sliders around in the levels panel in photoshop.

EPG has stopped loading as well, till I change input to something else and back to DTV.

Low bit panel and its dither shows worse than the cheap nasty HP 19" monitors at a friends work, and I thought they were bad! So basically hard to watch at any less than about 1.5 meters.

Remote is super sensitive to aiming it at the TV, but that might be the no brand batteries that it came with, I will try some proper ones sometime and see if its any better.

Also I dont know if its the TV or my junk old AMD 780g machine but if I plug HDMI into the PC, the ATI bloatware comes up that I am using a DVI-HDMI adapter (I am not) and doesnt send audio to the TV.

Here is the stupid location of the USB port, that card reader barely fits, it ends up covering the HDMI beside it, and both my HDMI cables wont fit at once because the ports are so close together. Also see the antenna location, if its RG6 will be hard to avoid excess bending when on the wall.

Brightness maybe called 'backlight' and not brightness, so that could be where the setting is. Doesn't sound like a good review, and sounds like there aren't the best electronics controlling the panel. Are you thinking of returning it, as I think they do have a money back guarantee. You may want to pay a but more to get something you are really happy with.

Yeah, there is no control for it, so in a bright sunlit room its quite passable, but bedroom at night its totally too bright.

Not going to bother returning it, its destined to be a kitchen TV once I have something bigger for the bedroom as finances allow and its basically almost twice the price to get something with digital built in, and I wont be using the media player in the kitchen (only tried it when in the bedroom as the single audio input meant that connecting the old xbox via component was a pain - the sockets are too far apart from the video ones for my cable to reach)

Try adding it to a harmony remote. The harmony's have multiple IR emitter LEDs so they tend to work much better than picky supplied remotes.

Also, I'd be looking at a 90deg F connector adaptor rather than bending the crap out of the aerial lead/plug.

Thanks very much for the update/photos etc, it will assist with a lot of us looking at these sorts of things on the cheap. I like that you are aware of the issue but realistic about your requirements as well.

It seems 54 is the magic value for brightness, turning it up from 50 gets a few more steps of shadow detail visible, really noticed it when watching criminal minds last night, once that's up to 54 then the contrast can be dropped without the massive problems of losing all the blacks. Panel seems to be basically the same as the cheap end of the PC monitors that are plauging everywhere now, so the tuner, remote, media player etc is prettymuch only adding $80-100 over the price of a cheap 24" PC monitor, so not really that bad of a deal.

Hi, if anyone's interested, I just purchased the VEON Blu-ray player.

It is NOT multi zoned for Blu-ray or DVD. No info inside the package on how to hack it. No information on the internet either.

It's very small and cheaply made. Part of the plastic fascia was peeling off. Cheesy "Transonic" -ish blue LED display. Reasonable remote but very small buttons. The front fascia has a row of black plastic buttons that are impossible to decipher unless you have 3D infra-red laser vision.

It boots up very quickly and does not chug and groan when a disc is loaded... but I was unable to verify the image quality as it wouldn't play any of the region 1 and zone a discs I tried. In frustration I packed it up and will return it.

For $149, not worth the money by a long shot. Why the Warehouse promised it would play discs from "any region" is quite beyond me.

You can buy a top brand such as a panasonic for that, at least they were when they were on special. It doesn't say on the ad in their website that it can play disks from any region.

Their press release (see the first post of this forum), does make the claim that it's multi-regioned.
