Shin: I really hope DSR-230 upgraded to support component by Thursday.

Sorry, Shin. The DS230 is slated to be the last updated to 0340 - around 7 Nov is the current date.

Then should I request another model of decoder or should I wait for 7th Nov? Is DS230 is far better than other decoder models?
Either way I have to pay $40 for upgrade, so I would like to receive SCART->Component cable with it.
Please let me know decoder model which support component now.

Shins, about 3/4 of the way down page 2 of this thread is my post with dates, obviously the only one not details is the DS-230 which is scheduled for a 7th of November update.

The only one running component today is the DSR2000, the others roll out over the next couple of weeks.

As for which box's are best, well I dont really think there is a lot between the five that support component, all the ST551X processors are similar in performance. The DS-230 is the best looking of them, about as big as a paper back novel, and in silver, quite unassuming. If it were me, I would wait for the DS-230, as it is the lattest hardware, and I guess has a bit more ram and mips to its disposal making it respond faster with the EPG.

So if I call Sky and ask them to change my DTH 325-4 decoder to the DS-230 and I am willing to pay for it then will they listen and change it? If yes it will cost around $40? Or not.

Yes, call SKY CS and ask decoder upgrade because you bought new TV or something, they will forward your request to service team and they will contact you for installation date.

To those who have been through the software upgrade already.

Because you had to change the menu setting on the SKY decoder, did that mean you lost your pic temporarily until you plugged in the new scart-component cable in to your system?

There shouldnt be a loss, the SCART will output composite and component at all times. There are 4 video output channels on a SCART, and the Component video connection uses the circuits also used by RGB, this leaves composite untouched.

Question: If you select Component for the TV Scart, can you still select SVideo for the VCR Scart?

Also, if choosing between a DVD/HDD recorder, would you choose
(a) A recorder that has RGB in and Component Out (Sony HX910)
(b) A recorder that has SVideo in and HDMI upscaling (Panasonic EH65)

Note: I have a G8 HD Panasonic Plasma.

cyril7: Any standard SCART to component adaptor cable will do, there is/has been a long established wiring standard of Y=G, Pr=R, Pb=B, and the composite circuit is available as well on the standard composite out circuit. The Y channel also carries sync as per all Component connections.

You can obtain a SCART cable from Jaycar (WQ7255) that has a 1.5meter lead with both the YPrPb RCA's and the L&R audio RCAs for $47.95, there is also a cheaper version sans the audio (WQ7245) for $35.95.

Or you can just use the simple SCART to component adaptor and supply your own leads, Jaycar PA3667 or DickSmith P6676 each about $15. Unfortunately these dont give audio aswell, pity.

Any of the SKY decoders that can do component have enough dencs onboard to handle S-video on the VCR SCART as well. The exception is the Pace 5512 (DSR2000) with the dedicated S-Video jack which doesn't do S-Video on the SCART at all.

The audio all comes from the same source, via seperate but same type drivers, there is no difference.

I have DTH 325-4 at home and today morning the diagnostic page displayed sw version 0340 as you predicted.
I'll try to hook up my tv via component this evening.

It's Thursday, and SKY tech visited as told last week.

He checked my decoder(DSR-600) and he was sure about it WILL support component output as soon as its software upgraded to version 3240(3230 maybe?, it's 3220 currently).

He was so sure that he made me not to sign upgrade request form thus not to pay $40 and gave me a SCART->Component cable for later use.

So now I'm really get confused, does Pace DSR-600 will support component output in near future(within next month maybe?) or SKY tech just got wrong idea?
