I have one of these

Cheapest i saw, same as mentioned numerous times before. The computer store seems quite good, fast postage and you can even pick up from their suppliers (Mostly Dynamix stuff) in Albany.

Anyway tool works perfectly on the Sky branded orange compression connectors.

Yep, I'll wait until Monday/Tuesday when I hear back about what the Sky install guy is using, but at this stage the 'Hanlong CT-H518' (probably out of elive as has free shipping) will be where i'm heading. Too many people here have it with no complaints, and you can't argue with the price either! Thanks too all for the input.

Amen to that! I thought my tool was the tits but apparently not. I can't go on about how good quality my installs are if I don't have the latest gear lol! Great discussion!

Hi all,

To complete this thread (well for me at least) I've purchased the Hanlong HT-H518E201 unit.
In my case from www.elive.co.nz for $35.70 incl. gst & postage.

If you've just skipped to the end of the thread, this device had a lot of support here and the price is right.
It appears to have different inserts, so is capable of doing more than just the F connector.

As was mentioned above, SKY has now moved to compression fittings, rather than the older hex/radial crimp type.

Thanks to all who contributed their experiences, and I guess now we move onto .... Punch down tools? 110 vs krone vs impact vs blades or not etc etc etc....

Hi, you need both a Krone tool and a 110 as a 110 will not do LSA modules or keystones that use LSA IDC's, and a 110 will not do LSA's.

As for what Krone tool to have, I have a genuine Krone one, cost around $85 about 6yrs ago, I lost it for awhile (was in the bottom of a parts bin in my truck) so grabbed a $30 Chinese clone, it broke within weeks but I have since repaired it, fortunately I found my lost Krone one and the Clone is a backup.

As for 110, I have one with a removable blade, one end has a cutoff edge the other does not, I never use the cutoff I use a pair of smaller side cutters to trim off, but thats me.

Ok 110's I can talk about... I got a really cheap one from DX a while back and was impressed. I had a really expensive one I got from somewhere local, and it kept breaking connectors.

I agree with Cyril, cutters can be smarter for trimming the wires.

I stand by my non-impact cheap as chips tool...

I terminate all jacks and patch panels with this. Doesn't take any longer to punch down and trim with cutters than it does using an impact tool. You never end up stabbing your hand if the tool slips off the jack. And you know for sure you have sent the wire home. No faults (except when you go cross eyed after 200+ and mix up the orange/green lol).

And totally agree with Cyril on getting genuine Krone. So much more expensive but the cutter on it is far superior to any of the cheap chinese jobbies.

That's a cable stripper as well, which can be very handy if you want to do cables properly and reduce risk of fault a year later.

I should point out that with any IDC tool (Krone/LSA or 110) you dont need the impact part, infact if the impact striker engages then there is probably a problem.

Yea tyco (i think) give them away but I just grab them from Stewarts when I lose my one. Less than $5. And I normally lose it before it breaks.
Iv stuffed the blade a couple of times by stripping a 25-pair. I should know better lol.
