Could I ask about your experience with the smartphone app for this.
I've been using the AC Ryan PLAYON HD for the last couple of years, but thinking of switching to the WD TV. Probably the hub model. The AC Ryan has been OK, but the firmware updates are getting far and few between and they have never resolved a dodgy network problem.
After using the itune remote on my iphone. I'm pretty impressed and would like something similar for my non-apple movie streamer.
Does the app show a scrollable list of movies on the phone? This is unclear to me from the descriptions.
the 3rd party app can display scrollable list of uPnP network media library/shares on the android tablet It can't display scrollable list of wdtv's media library Scrollable list of network shares displayed on the android tablet via the 3rd party app is on the to do list.

Western Digital Live HD 3rd Generation
As New, still in original box with all the original packaging, plastic wraps, stickers, etc. Probably could say it was new and you wouldn't know. Still under warranty from dick smith Used it for a couple of months while I waited for a replacement motherboard + cpu for my broken HTPC Played every single video file without problems (I have 5TB of media, didn't encounter any problems)
Features: HDMI SPDIF Audio Composite video Wifi / Ethernet IR Remote control Can use android / iOS tablet/phone to control as well Works with plex/youtube/online content/etc etc
They are good units. I have an older Live (without built-in WiFi) in the bedroom, and a Live Hub in the living room. Other than the fact that the older unit has a very ugly and somewhat clunky interface, I'm happy with both of them.
WiFi works OK for streaming SD, HD can be a bit marginal. Moving them to ethernet over powerline made a noticeable difference in speed and responsiveness etc, and HD works fine.
