munchkin: The dark ages? Like when these were 'new' and 'fresh'? (Ok, granted the last one was the birth of our third channel, and I have WAY too much time on my hands Laughing)

Just imagine if this is all we had, but in jaw-dropping, glorious 1080p...Would it really be so bad?

Thanx for the links. Brings back memories. By the way the "Birth of TV3" one . Just change the words "only on TV3" to "only on NBC" and it's word for word the NBC late 80s promo that i saw in the US,..

Regards,

NBC used to be a shareholder in TV3. I know the song was adapted from this, unless there's another one you're talking about?  Only on NBC

Anyway, so I'm not hijacking this thread any further... I'm personally waiting for the terrestrial Freeview service to start, about a week ago I finally updated the last CRT in my house to a WS flat panel. In short, I suppose that I'm assuming that TVNZ will broadcast its HD channels via the terrestrial service.

Yes, HD will only be via the DVB-T terrestrial service at this stage and not the DVB-S satellite platform.

Thanx for the NBC link. That's similar but there was another I remember in 1990 which was the same as the TV3 version..

I like you am waiting for HD here in NZ but i suspect that we won't see it until at least June / July 2008

rickdry, the HVR4000 should do the trick. You could also look at the HVR3000, which is a little cheaper.

There was an article about HDTV in the business section of the DomPost last w-e.
They said that freeview terrestrial will enforce DRM over HDMI.
I can't understan why they should do it, given that Blu-ray and HD-DVD don't do it yet.
why would you stop people without HDMI to watch and record sport events, or the news in hi-res?
Then, can you already record hi-def video from component?
And who would seriously watch hi-def movies via DTV, given all the ads and compromised quality with respect to permanent storage media...
