Saw an e-mail this morning from Mightyape with UHD blu-rays for sale, tweeted them and they confirmed no players available. Also saw some for sale in JB Hifi Queensgate today also, same story no players available.

Seems odd to sell these when there is nothing available in NZ that can play them

Got an email update just now from a NZ retailer about the UB900.

"Just an update: Panasonic told us that it should be in NZ in August and RRP will be $1,999 max but they are working on a better price"

Holy cow. Panasonic are dreaming if they think $1999 is a realistic price!

Nope no console can play 4k natively yet they all will play the 1080 embedded which is upscaled or with updates they will play the resolution but not hdr and without hdr this stuff isnt even that impressive imo will have to wait for playstation 5 I guess but samsung are sure to sell a lot if panasoinc comes in at 2k wow

Don't forget in one month at e3 we'll find out if the PS 4.5 and updated Xbox One consoles will play 4k discs like rumoured. I personally hope they do, really badly.

At the moment it nobody knowswhat hdmi port it has because they haven't announced the updated specs (officially) for the rumoured half generation console upgrades. Both new systems will likely have new ports, support hdr and 4k discs but it's too soon to know for sure.

Indeed. It's too early to say what this rumoured, unannounced hardware will or won't do. But given Sony's track record I'd expect playback support for the new discs.

Decided I couldn't wait until the Panasonic arrives, so ordered a Samsung K8500 from Australia (NZ/AU 240 Volt model and chipped for Blu-ray/DVD selection via the remote). Should hopefully hold me over until the Oppo is released.

Decided I couldn't wait until the Panasonic arrives, so ordered a Samsung K8500 from Australia (NZ/AU 240 Volt model and chipped for Blu-ray/DVD selection via the remote). Should hopefully hold me over until the Oppo is released.

You arent going to regret it I just use it as a usb media player too as it plays pretty much any file I throw at it. My htpc is just sitting there now lol

The new gpu chip called finfet used in ps4.5 seems rather capable.

"The new chip will enable support for 4K resolution, HDR (high dynamic range) and a wide color gamut. The same picture improvements are currently being built into new high-end TVs, including Sony TVs. In addition, it would have an HDMI 2.0 output to be capable of outputting 4K at up to 60 frames per second, as well as HEVC decoding. Besides supporting games in 4K, it would support 4K streaming from the likes of Netflix."

Yeah that's what I mentioned but until it's officially announced its all rumour and speculation
