clevedon, havnt thought about not using Viera Link just cos its easier to press one button than two. with your setup, does that mean every time you want to watch tv, you need to switch on tv, switch on theatre, change tv settings to use home theatre for speakers? i know it is a base level system but what do you think about audio quality over optical vs aux? thx

Not a problem at all, the receiver is on all the time any way. Just have to turn the TV on and all sound comes from all sources via optical only and much less cable clutter, sound is turned off on the TV all the time, just use the receiver volumn control. Quality is OK for a cheap / free system, a 500% improvement over regular TV sound output though, especially for 5.1 sound for Bluray and PS3 gaming and when available, MySky HDi.
