JB HiFi has them for $99 ATM if anyone was on the market.

they do? can't find it on their website... (ah, you meant the aussie site!)

keen on how you get on with the shield pro, as well... i am in a similar situation with the limitations of the xbox.

Oops, didn’t notice it was the Aussie site!

I've settled on trying the Shield Pro, hopefully will get it in a week or so. If it doesn't perform how I'd like I can always sell it.

Decided to try this over an Apple TV 4K mainly because it seems more flexible for content from my local media server. The ads sound a little annoying (depending on who you ask), but there seems to be multiple ways to get rid of them if I find them too obtrusive. I do like the sound of Apple's colour calibration using your phone, but I like the sound of the Shield's (apparently) very impressive upscaling more.

If I wanted to compare it directly to an Apple TV myself, does Apple's 14 returns policy cover opened items? I.e. could I buy an Apple TV and if I decide the Shield is better then just return it?

The Apple TV option pissed me off because people keep telling me the only way to get a really good media player for it is to rent it for several dollars a month!

gehenna: Read the FUG that you agreed to:

"Discussions about the copyright law itself are welcome. You can not complain about notifications or terminations that were sent by ISPs according to the law and you can not discuss in details how to bypass the copyright law. For example saying a specific technology can be used is ok, describing step-by-step how to do it is not."

The fact that the devices can do it is fine, but some brief mentions of how-to can become bigger than they should, hence the "by stealth" comment.

Not that I really care but breaking georestrictions is not against the copyright law. It probably breaks the providers Ts&Cs but that is a different matter.

I'm not referring to the law, I'm referring to the fug. You all agreed to it.

But you quote the FUG which refers to bypassing Copywrite Law. The post you objected to didn't seem to breach the FUG.

In any case as I said I don't really care. Just thought you might like to understand the difference.

For this discussion I don't need to know any specifics of how anyone may be circumventing geoblocks. There's a separate private thread of that.

At this point I'm quoting it for Wheton's Law. And if you read what I originally said it was to stay on topic before getting too far down the path of it becoming a fug issue. Not that there was one.

I’m guessing Infuse. It charges monthly subscription or buy version outright. I brought life time license (for all future versions) a few years ago so pay nothing. Looks like prices have been hiked pretty hard since then, as I can see Infuse 6 to buy outright is $90. Infuse 5 was $20.

Guessing the sub option has been hiked as well. Current version is Infuse 7.

That's the one, and yes, hard increase on subs... Renting a bloody media player app is taking the piss.

Becoming disappointed with my Shield Pro for the following -

- Chromecast not working. In particular, SkyGo stops after 2 seconds and goes back to the ready to cast screen. All my Chromecast with Google Tv work fine. Used to work fine pre-last update.

- I have it set to turn off tv as well. This now also won't work. The Shield turns off but not tv. Both turn on fine. Used to work fine. ((Panasonic OLED TV)

For something so expensive over alternatives its become quite frustrating. Nice picture but that's about it for me. The Chromecast with Google TV on the other tv I like much better.

I thought vlc is on Apple TV or am I misremembering? Infuse was kind of a must have back in the day when the supported formats was limited on Apple TV. But not so much anymore.

VLC for mobile is on Apple TV. I don’t know how good it is, but it’s free to use.
