Don't know where to from here ... any suggestions?
HTPC: Antec Fusion 430, Intel i3, Gigabyte 1050, Corsair 4x1Gb, Hauppauge WinTv, Logitech z-5500, Logitech Harmony 525, Yamaha Rx-v6a, Samsung KS8000 4k, Windows 10, Mediaportal 1.30, BLU-RAY: Panasonic UB820
Gemini: Hi
I also have a 780G and have been trying to get Freeview working under Win 7.
Green, pixelated or no picture on some channels in Media Centre.
Advice was to install Mediaportal and PowerDVD6.
Mediaportal is installed but is not working properly. It is very slow and is locking up. Have no idea why.
It also is not detecting my Hauppauge USB tuner.
I'm thinking installing PowerDVD is not going to fix these problems :)
Running ATI Catalyst 9.5 driver only.
Don't know where to from here ... any suggestions?

A Microsoft PM puts it clearly: "To get H.264 working, I recommnend AMD 4 series or newer and NVIDIA 8 series and newer." So that effectively rules out the 780G chipset unless you use an external video card.

Gemini: Unfortunately those graphics cards aren't an option in a low profile low power HTPC case
So where is the Add/Edit capture cards option in Mediaportal?
Online help talks about it but no instructions/screenshots about it

Upgrading to the HT3 processor recently opened up all the options in ATI control centre for deinterlacing and made a noticeble improvement.
Yeah I've got an 8650 in a basically identical setup to yours and it all looks marvellous, I agree that the extra video options available on the HT3 processor add that extra layer of quality. It's nice to have a bit of grunt in the CPU department for encoding things as well.
julianz: I've got an Antec Fusion v2 case, I'm using the stock 2x120mm fans on the right hand side of that case turned down to their lowest setting, and the stock CPU cooler that came with the 8650 with whatever goo it came with. I figured I'd start messing round with it if it ran too hot, but it's been fine so far (2 months or so).
The CPU gets up to 51C if I run a long encode, but never above, and it never gets unstable. I'd like to swap the 120mm fans for something a little quieter - possibly some sort of control board to make them run a bit slower would do the trick, as they're really very quiet now but not silent :)
The only issue I really have with it at the moment is that those fans are pulling so much air through the case they're dragging in dust and some of it is sticking in the front USB/Firewire ports! Some blanking plugs or maybe sealing up those ports at the back might be in order.
