Anyone know if these cards will work in the PCI-E 16x slot?
I have someone who would like two of them in their HTPC but they only have one PCI-E 1x slot and the PCI-E 16x slot - They use the onboard graphics/HDMI so don't need a discrete graphics card.

Hey Blur,

I had similar problems, and I found that I had to add 'fudge-factors' to the 12647. I think in the end, i had to use 12649. I'd recommend you try adding and subtracting to that number to see how it goes (12648, 12649, 12650, ...). For giggles, you might want to try rebooting first, don't watch/tune any channels and go straight to the tv signal setup. (i experienced strangeness with not being able to see SBS channels if I had first tuned into a freeview nz channel)

Btw, you are selecting vertical, correct?

Hi newbellies - thanks for the response. I will try the different frequencies later today and let you know how I get on... Yes, I am using vertical... which I think is what causes the problems. I think if I have been watching freeview the LNB gets "stuck" in horozontal so it causes all sorts of problems.

I'd suggest that even if you stop watching a freeview channel by pressing stop it will still be caching it so the LNB will be stuck in horozontal mode and SBS won't work.

I'm picking that it might be easier to have 2 LNB's with a swich, but I may be wrong. That was you can record SBS and Freeview at the same time.

horizontal will override vertical polarity when tuning a channel, therefore you can't be watching a Freeview/Sky channel and SBS at the same time.

I'm not 100% sure, but wouldn't the DiSEqC switch mean you'd have to add a splitter at the end? (assuming you're going to separate DVB-S inputs on the card).

Yes it will work. Any PCI-e card that is less than or equal to the size of the slot will work in the slot. This means x16, x8, x4 and x1 cards would work in a x16 slot, x8, x4 and x1 cards would work in a x8 slot etc. Note that this rule is for the physical size of the slot. Some slots can have less electrical lanes than might be suggested by the size (eg. a x16 slot with only 8 electrical channels - common when balancing allocation of channels over 2 x16 slots for SLI/Crossfire). Carrying on the example, that doesn't mean to say that you can't use a x16 card in that slot.

Okay I think I went a bit overboard there!

The short answer is "it will work".

Elkano is on the money. You can do it with either two standard LNBs (or a dual output LNB) and one of the doodackies he linked to. One LNB (or output of dual LNB) becomes dedicated horizontal, and the other goes vertical.

If you bought 2 LNBs, I think the trick would be pointing both LNBs at the same satellite on the same dish. Don't know if that would work... (ask someone like cyril7 for that). A dual output like this (http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/dual-output-band-p-368.html) or this (http://www.freeviewshop.co.nz/noise-dual-output-10750mhz-band-p-40.html) should do the trick though.
