natto:dauckland: Hi there.
I realized today that the EPG NZ wasn't working, thanks SKY
I use EyeTV and like to get my EPG using XML rather than DVB
I managed to write a small toll that grabs listings for al freeview channels and converts it into XMLTV format.
I have posted the latest 7 day EPG at http://files.me.com/cmsmiths/eesmju (ZIPped)
I will get this updated every day under the same link and try to get a proper site going in the long run
Hope this helps some of you.
D
Works good for me. However, I tried to change the info in my script to download it automatically and it doesn't work anymore... Any help there for someone who doesn't know what half of you are talking about?
Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.
Hinko: I expect there is no coincidence in the timing with this analogue switch off:

What does it have to do with it?
sbiddle:
...I agree totally that it's IP owned by the broadcaster.
Plasmadog:
Is it though? I don't know where NZ law stands on the issue, but I'm pretty sure that in the US at least, copyright law does not protect data, or even ideas, only expression. Things like EPGs and phone directories are not considered IP there. However, that principal did have to be established by the courts; maybe there hasn't been an equivalent precedent set here yet?
sbiddle: .. I watch more TV with my PVR now than I ever did before. I can see what's on and schedule shows. With no EPG I'd probably just ignore a lot of stuff. It would be the broadcaster's loss and not mine...
Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD. https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.
CYaBro: Isn't NZ one of the only countries where the broadcasters are so protective of their EPG data?
Why is that?
RustyGonad: For example lets say your subscribe to the Herald, once you get it, you copy it a thousand times, and give it out for free (it must be ok, cause your not making any money out of it, and everyone can read it online)

While I agree with everything else you wrote, I find this a not so good example.
If we use the Herald as an example, it would be more like us distributing their publication times, a list of the headlines, the journalist's name and which section of the newspaper it was, but not the story content itself.
Now that I've written that, an example I'm emotionally disconnected from, I think they might have a point.
I'd like it if a TVGuide-like company provided a $1/wk subscription to download a 14 day epg.
