clevedon:

No clearance items and all reasonably good gear, I have spent many, many 000's at this store over the last 24 months, I only ever deal with one particular guy, I do the pricing ground work, he always betters the price, I always pay cash.

I guess I was refering to TV's - they typically only have 20 - 23% margin in them to start with... if anyone is selling you TV's with bigger price reductions it's either an importer supported clearance, or the store is losing money on sales. Which I doubt, for their long term future.
But if you're buying things like amps / speakers, then there's more margin to get off the RRP.
What kit did you get? And what prices?
Share the place so we can do the same!

We are building our new house ourselves, so buying AV gear, appliances, furniture etc as we progress slowly with the build. The store is Harvey Norman in Manukau, though any big ticket items we have got years before the build project were sourced from there, always bettered anyone else prices, so we always go back - I ring around extensively for pricing prior to purchasing, takes a fair bit of time but well worth it.

Back on price...

On newegg.com.cn, 55EX500 is more expensive than NZ, while 46EX500 is a lot cheaper

http://www.newegg.com.cn/Search.aspx?N=1135107120+800000003+700030326&pageSize=12

40EX500 RMB 6989 (~NZ$1440) - about same as discounted price here @ $1439
46EX500 RMB 8299 (~NZ$1711) - $288 cheaper than discounted price here @ $1999
55EX500 RMB 12699 (~NZ$2618) - $219 more expensive than discounted price here @ $2399

RMB conversion based on today's interbank rate of 1 NZ$ = 4.85 RMB

China has a VAT that's similar to GST, and I believe it's 17% on LCD TV

The 55EX500 looks a real bargin here.

I bought a 40 inch 500 series, have no complaints about it whatsoever.  However, it's my first large TV so I've really nothing to compare it with.  Best feature: hand cut outs in the back making it easy to move around.
