Movieman:

Empire Magazine has recently updated (24/02/2024) its Top 100 Films of all time.

Don't fall for the click bait. Some decent movies in there, but certainly not a definitive list of the top 100. The greatest movie of all time doesn't even make the top 10 :)

Just recently released (February 27th) in 4K Ultra HD SteelBook format in the US is the award winning Netflix film ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. The SteelBook does include a Blu-ray, but I can't find anything to say if it's Region A locked. Amazon have it for a very reasonable US$29.99 (Originally US$44.99) and free shipping with an order of US$49 or more.

I have this on its way to me, hopefully getting delivered on Monday. I'll let you know if the blu-ray disc is region-locked, if you haven't found out yet. In the meantime I've just pre-ordered that Dune 2 steelbook off JB Hifi Aus too! 👍

Does JB HI FI AU charge you for preorder when processing the order or when it ships?

Cool cheers! Debating if I should wait for JBNZ to put up the steelbook since they still seem to be releasing them here, particularly Warner Bros steelbooks. The one JBAu order I've placed took about 2 months to arrive.

Yeah JB HI-FI AU definitely take their sweet time shipping to NZ, though two months seems a bit extreme. I did once, however, have a movie delivered by them arrive in Auckland on its way to me (I'm in Christchurch) only to then get delivered to Paris! I ended up getting refunded on the shipping costs for that one.

Hopefully JB NZ do get the same steelbooks, so I can cancel the AU pre-order.

I don't buy as many SteelBooks as I used to do, especially when there is a 50/50 chance that they will be damaged in those flimsy bags that almost every online store uses these days. I do really want the Dune: Part Two SteelBook and I considered Pre-ordering from JBAU, because I think that they will sell out before release date, but I decided to take a chance and wait for a possible JBNZ release, which I can pick up in store and inspect before accepting it.

The last couple of orders from JBAU have taken about two weeks to arrive. EzyDVD orders took about six days and were well packed in a sturdy cardboard box. The cardboard boxes were used for fairly large orders, so I don't know what their packaging is like for single or two movie orders. EzyDVD don't stock SteelBooks, so packaging isn't as important from them. but I wish JBAU would use boxes for shipping SteelBooks 😐

Guff:

On another note, has anyone heard any rumblings about the Godzilla Minus One movie releasing down here? I missed it at the theatres and read it was very good.

Cheers

Godzilla Minus One is not being streamed or shown on any NZ channels. It has been said that Disney Plus will have it later in the year.

Just browsing Amazon AU and I found another title recently discounted so that I can now get free shipping.

I ordered UK releases of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Arrival (I'm a Sci-Fi fan). Probably a couple of weeks before I receive them.

Movieman:

Here is the artwork for the upcoming DUNE: Part Two SteelBook. This is the US wide release, which is likely to be the same for the Australian release. I have the UK SteelBook for the first film. This is a must have for me.

I was very slow to Dune, missing it at the cinema, and only seeing it on netflix this past summer. Def regret not seeing it on the big screen. Looking forward to catching part II in the next week or two, and hoping that they put out a nice 4K set of both movies. Would expect quite likely for a franchise of this standing. But that steelbook def looks cool.

Put in my first US Amazon order for a a long time, was keen to grab a preorder of Once the Upon a Time In the West 4k Paramount set. I didn't occur to me at first that discounted titles wouldn't apply for free shipping, so took a while to find something I wanted that wasn't at a stupid price. Settled on the 4k Guns of Navarone steelbook, which appears to be the same as the one coming to Australia. I was tempted by cheap price of Goodfellas, but then saw a bunch of fairly neg reviews of the 4k edition, so that scared me off.

I had GOODFELLAS in my collection (for a while). In my opinion it was the worst 4K UHD in my collection... looked terrible (very dark), so you did the right thing to check out some reviews before diving in. I'm happy with the 1080p disc.

By the way, JBAU have a DUNE 2-Film Collection on their website.

Hey everyone, I'm still having trouble tracking down a copy of Oppenheimer. It's no longer listed on the JB Hi-Fi website, and JB AU unfortunately doesn't ship that title to New Zealand. Any leads on where I might find a copy at a reasonable price? I completely missed the initial stock release last year. eBay seems a bit out of control with prices reaching $50 for the standard version, plus another $40 for shipping, and that's not even the steelbook edition! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for heads up about this deal! I went ahead and purchased Arrival, which helped me reach the free shipping quota.

There are rumours that Amazon/MGM are planning a reboot of STARGATE. Reportedly to be made into a trilogy. Chris Evans and Rami Malek are expected to star.

Only a rumour at this stage, but it could be epic if done right.
