I was looking for some information on a 4K Ultra HD release of Godzilla Minus One. I came across a UK website named "Kings of Steel". They have a SteelBook for Pre-order... but its discless 😕

You have the option of several slipcovers with different artwork to put on the SteelBook, similar to Blufans or Manta Lab.... but again, no disc. This is a perfect example of a company taking advantage of SteelBook collector's who just can't turn down a nice SteelBook.

Searching the site more closely, I think that they may be part of the Film Arena (Czech Republic) SteelBook group.

To say that there is no disc included, the prices are ridiculous, but I am sure that they will get a lot of orders all the same.

Hey everyone, I'm still having trouble tracking down a copy of Oppenheimer. It's no longer listed on the JB Hi-Fi website, and JB AU unfortunately doesn't ship that title to New Zealand. Any leads on where I might find a copy at a reasonable price? I completely missed the initial stock release last year. eBay seems a bit out of control with prices reaching $50 for the standard version, plus another $40 for shipping, and that's not even the steelbook edition! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EzyDVD Australia have the Standard Edition Oppenheimer 4K Ultra HD in stock at AU$42.97. I think shipping is about AU$9.99 up to a certain weight, so you may want to browse the site for anything else that you may be looking for to make the shipping cost worthwhile.

New Zealand Orders: Shipping to New Zealand starts from $9.99 per shipment. Charges are based on the availability, size and weight of the contents. New Zealand deliveries require a physical mailing address as the courier service we use do not deliver to PO Boxes. Please Note If your order requires Split shipping, the freight is calculated based off the number of shipments that will be sent out (Starting from $9.99 per Shipment) So best to order items that are in stock.

JBAU have a Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion  on physical media. There are 206 4K Ultra HD titles, but, as they are catalogue titles, you may have trouble getting three shipped to NZ.

Just recently released (February 27th) in 4K Ultra HD SteelBook format in the US is the award winning Netflix film ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT. The SteelBook does include a Blu-ray, but I can't find anything to say if it's Region A locked. Amazon have it for a very reasonable US$29.99 (Originally US$44.99) and free shipping with an order of US$49 or more.

I can confirm that the blu-ray disc is not region-locked. Both it and the 4K play just fine in my Panasonic DP-UB820.

The following was taken from a post on Blu-ray.com and finally puts to bed any hopes of new Disney titles being released in this part of the world.

Don’t know if this has been said or not but got an email from all interactive saying they will not be distributing new Disney titles, only existing stock. Here’s the full email received below:

Hi Luke,

Our agreement with Disney was only to distribute any remaining, pre-existing stock in their warehouse after their exit from the ANZ market. As such, we don’t have the license to create or distribute any new or back catalogue Disney titles beyond this.

We absolutely intend to release as many titles from our studio partners (Universal, Sony, Paramount, StudioCanal, E-One, VVS) as we can. It’s very much in our interest to keep physical media alive and thriving, so rest assured that our release slate is as thorough and wide ranging as it’s possible for us to do.

Kind Regards,
Melissa Clifford
Customer Service Representative

A few weeks ago, I noticed that The Beekeeper starring Jason Statham, was added to JBAU, JBNZ and EzyDVD websites in the Blu-ray and DVD formats. The release date is March 27th and still no sign of a 4K Ultra HD  option.

The US and Germany are getting 4K releases and Germany is also getting a 4K Ultra HD & Blu-ray SteelBook; there are no listings for any physical release in the UK yet. This title is a Warner Bros. release distributed by Roadshow which makes it seem a little odd as WB have been releasing several catalogue titles in 4K in Australia/NZ.

iTunes are also 1080p only (this may change after physical release) so, at the moment we are stuck with having to import. I hope this doesn't become the norm for WB new releases.

Here is the German SteelBook Edition priced at €35 plus €18 shipping, making it a wallet busting NZ$94+ to import.

Amazon US have the Standard 4K release for Pre-order. It has a place holder price at the moment, but I would expect it to drop by about US$15 before release date, which hasn't been announced yet.

New 4K Ultra HD announcement from Scream Factory (Shout Factory's Horror Division) available May 14 2024. Will be available from Amazon US and probably Amazon AU.

Accompanying Blu-ray will be Region A Locked.

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE (1988) 35th Anniversary Edition

A spaceship — looking like a circus tent — lands in a field near a small town, signaling the attack of deviant, red-nosed, balloon-twisting psychos from another world who plan to annihilate mankind — by turning people into cotton candy! Luckily, the town's teen citizenry decides to fight back and teach the cosmic bozos a lesson. But these klowns are no klutzes, turning popcorn, peanuts and caramel corn into playful — but deadly — weapons of madcap destruction and mayhem!

Video: Dolby Vision/HDR10 • Audio DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 • Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1 • Run Time 86 Minutes

Pretty stunned that a movie from Amazon, ordered just last Friday, arrived today. It was the Guns of Navarone steelbook, has US packaging but courier info suggests it came from UK. Either way, super fast, and at $57 NZ, I'm pretty chuffed with it. Can't wait to watch it.

I've been looking at a couple of Ebay sellers who claim to offer "additional" 20-25% off when buying 3 movies or hitting $60 threshold etc. It's made to appear look like you're going to get an extra discount off already-discounted discs. But once you get to checkout it's just one blanket 20% off regular price from what I could see. Was looking at $120NZ all up for 4ks of Requiem For a Dream, The Prestige and Field of Dreams, which is fair but hardly a bargain.

I've had hit and miss experiences in the past buying records from rarewaves, deepdiscount etc, in terms of damage and slow post, I expect movies would be quite similar. Any recommended ahead of the pack?

Reading posts on another forum. Rarewaves orders to this side of the world often go missing or take a long time to arrive. I have personally used Deep Discount years ago and my last order didn’t arrive. No answer to my emails, so I never used them again. I use Amazon US and Amazon AU and occasionally Amazon UK which don’t have a free shipping option. JBAU, JBNZ and EzyDVD are the other sellers I use.

Amazon AU have The Prestige for AU$27 and Field of Dreams for AU$28. Four dollars short of free shipping.

I just ordered three blu-rays from Rarewaves (via eBay), so I hope they turn up!

Back in the early days of DVD, we purchased from several stores (DVD Pacific, DVD Express, Deep Discount DVD etc.). My brother had multiple resends of packages go missing from Deep Discount. We speculate they were never sent as nothing else had ever gone missing and only one package has since (Amazon package, lost by NZ Post in 2019) and I recall reading about an issue where their international packages didn't go out for a whole week or something (this was 20+ years ago, details are long since forgotten).

At some point, years later, I thought I'd give them another go. They'd flagged our address and refused to send the order unless I paid for courier services. Needless to say, I didn't agree to that and I haven't ordered from them since.

I know! Wish one of them was a little more expensive. I just can't latch onto a third item to hit it. I might need to think outside the (DVD) box. Order a big bag of M&Ms or something.

During Covid, a few times I had records go missing from rarewaves or moviemars, or arrive water damaged. They'd just send another one. Sometimes two would eventually show up. But I hate it when a seller just blanks you and won't reply to messages - don't need that aggravation! Thanks for the responses.
