The ethernet port means more to me than storage as network storage is all ove the ethernet...

Indeed. For all but the simplest of installations, network storage is the way to go. A 3TB network accessible drive (eg Mybook Live) goes for under $300.

Ok, mine has arrived.

Interesting that it has a 32bit install on it. Wonder if I can change it to 64 bit without license hassles since I have no idea how the licensing works on things like this.

My ethernet has now died after a reboot for some windows updates. Now showing no driver for the DM9621A USB to FastEther device. And the onboard wifi is only 2.4GHz so I hope it really is just a driver issue.

Couple more re-boot  /update cycles and the ethernet is back with a #2 on it in device manager. So no dramas.

I suspect this is a Windows 8 logoed machine, which means the license key is embedded in the UEFI firmware

Ok, well I will perservere with 32bit for now, it only has 2 gigs so not a problem on that side of things at least. Seems pretty snappy for something so gutless, Have not got wake on lan working on it yet, but as it uses less power running than my other computers do when sitting there "off" waiting to wake up I think that probably is a non-issue to leave it on all the time.

I have only had a quick play with my unit on the weekend. Maybe tommorow some more. I'm hoping it will work ok for shout cast encoding and running Cumulus weather software. I can then use less power and retire the old XP desktop.

Finally got mame working on it and bubble bobble works fine. My romset is hopelessly out of date so will have to sort that out. Last time I tried torrenting it and got kicked off the site because of crap uploads. Dont think this box will end up in the arcade cabinet shell unless I can get an ok looking HDMI to antique CRT converter that works.

Well my unit appears dead. Won't power up now. Simply after trying to set last known power state to 'On' in the BIOS.

It was set to S0 and I set it to S5

I found the button needed to be held for 10 seconds or so on one occasion to get it on.

Also, I have never seen so many uefi options I have no idea what they mean as on this machine.

Yeah tried that. No change.

Powered up once and went into recovery mode and did a disk scan. Then changed to a screen all in Chinese with boot options (windows 8 graphical, not text). Selected to restart option (going by icon) and it became dead again.

A Google search shows other people having the same issues after changing settings in the BIOS.

It appears there is also no way to reset the BIOS with a jumper change.

According to 'Anna' from PIPO the bios settings 'cannot be changed'. Which begs to ask the question of why isn't the BIOS nobbled so you can't save the settings. Was then told I would need to reflash the bios and she would email files. The email never arrived.

So if you want a box you can tweak then best avoid this one. I will be trying to get a refund or replacement.
