Came across this yesterday..

http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box/pp_139577.html

Pre-orders until Jan 22nd. Just over $100 NZ . Running Windows 8.1

Ordered one with the intention to use it as a streaming PC for Internet radio.

Has anyone else ordered on? I tending to use it for something other than TV?

It certainly looks very interesting and very good price compared to the Gigabyte Brix.

Brix doesn't run 8.1 with Bing. That's a big price difference right there.

Would it be reasonably easy to install linux on this? Or is this one of those "locked" devices?

its just a x86 PC, its not "locked" at all

It probably has UEFI instead of a BIOS

It looks like it comes with Windows 8.1 installed on a 32GB eMMC which you could reformat for Linux.

Hi Ross

I'm hoping this will run streamer :-)

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't... Using a USB sound card.

Cheers,
Grant

You mean the USB powered sticks that run Windows 8.1?

Well I am unimpressed to say the least with GearBuy. I placed a pre-order, and then found a coupon online. I asked them if they could apply a credit and they said, no cancel the order and re-order which they told me they would do, but the person who did those jobs wasn't available today (sick).

I waited a day no email of cancellation, followed up, they said they would cancel it, another 2 days goes by, still no email just jumped into chat they said they cancelled the order but they don't send out confirmation emails. I then go to order the item and it's up in price by $21, discount coupon works to bring it back to the original price I purchased from.

Basically they delayed my refund until the price + discount coupon meant it was the same price.

Need to find another sub $100 USD Delivered vendor now. Anyone have any experience with a better e-tailer?
