Noticed this on JB Hifi's Australian Website: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/players-recorders/samsung/samsung-ubd-k8500-4k-hdr-blu-ray-player/956335/

Any reason why it wouldn't work here?

It would definitely work here. Might want to check if it's Samsungs first UHD player though as there have been issues with it on blu-ray.com

It's exactly the same as the model that will be sold here, at some point in the near-ish future. You'll need to ship it to someone in Australia, though (go through the steps and it will eventually say shipping to NZ is not allowed).

AMD just announced all all their x 2015 cards will get a HDR firmware update, so maybe, just maybe xbox one/ps update will cover it, as HDMI 2.0 to 2.0a doesnt seem like that big a deal...??

Hmmm.. does say "4K Video Playback".  Could mean just 4K video files though?   Can the current model play a 4K video file on a harddrive?   I'm unfamiliar with the video files an Xbox can play.

No official word from either camp regarding 4k disc playback but both confirmed (BT.2020 HDCP 2.2) HEVC HDR file playback (usually mov but comes in many formats) plus streaming, Disc playback support will be announced after UHD alliance have approved product to their standards, I dont see any reason they wont support disc playback

Yeah its just waiting on official confirmation by the standards community in regards to consoles... but those discs are playable on the samsung or panasonic 4k players, dunno if out in nz yet but I got mine ages ago when amazon did preorders but still be nice to have the consoles play discs as well, since the games are just going to be upscaled 1080, disc playback and streams will make sure you are getting the most out of the tv

I still remember when the xbox one first came out they officially stated it would have 4k playback added in a firmware update, never mentioned physical discs just that the console could play the files. Don't think that will still be coming anymore to the original consoles.

Im just hoping here *fingerscrossed it will really push the market for content, but I have heard both sony and microsoft are part of uhd alliance and have discussed disc playback just no word if its actually going ahead :(

Now confirmed. New Xbox One S will have a 4K UHD Blu Ray player. By far the most powerful, cheaper with more extra features

Do whatever you want to do man.
