sbiddle: Somebody from IceTV (from memory) posted on here a few months ago asking if there was interest in a subscription EPG for New Zealand.

That's right - the thread is here if anyone is interested.

netd: ... a quick script to convert the freeview xml to xmltv ... Written in Perl, it requires

XML::TreeBuilder;
XML::Writer;
LWP::Simple;
DateTime::TimeZone;
DateTime::Format::Natural;
DateTime

Most people reading this could be quite interested in using the script, but have no idea how to supply these prerequisites.

If you have a few minutes to do it - a quick idiots set-up guide would be very useful.

I used ActivePerl.  In ActivePerl, use the Perl Package Manager to search for the below packages and install them.  You will probably have to go to View and choose All Packages before searching.

XML-TreeBuilder
XML-Writer
LWP
DateTime-TimeZone
DateTime-Format-Natural
DateTime

You are missing the point. You can record Sky from a PVR. But you need EPG data AND a Sky subscription.

RE DJKxml.exe
DJKxml got hit as well over the weekend, but the 3.4 update has a new source for freeview channels, Don't know about any sky ones.
Ironically the Prime and Juice TV listing didn't skip a beat.

Isn't what Reven's xmltvnz does - screen scraping?

Using your dcdvbsource I get further than the previous Binary with my HVR-2200
running your dcdvbsource to a input.dvb and playing that via WMP results in

MHPData\TV ONE,MHPData\PRIME etc directories and data structure are  created
but
EPG.data file is created in \EPGData but mheg2xmltv.exe looks in \epg\data

moving the file to there gives

D:\DOWNLOAD\TV\EPG\xml2mheg-2>mheg2xmltv.exe input.dvb output.xml
Error: An exception occured: Could not find a part of the path 'D:\DOWNLOAD\TV\EPG\xml2mheg-2\input.dvb\epg\data'.

So something else is still not quite right

excellent work so far though

Got the same error but in a different manner - just invoking the program to createa a xml listing file.

The web page is still up.  I ran the program today and it's working for me.  I included the BBC World channel as a test for Sky channels and it also worked.

To Rlevis to be clear
The DJKxml failed over thet weekend
the old version 3.3.4 relied on epg.pvr.geek.nz
error "The request URI could not be found or was malformed trying to get http://epg.pvr.geek.nz/epg/freeview-web.xml.gz"

DJK has fixed this in the current 3.4 version
he's very quick to repair his epg getter/scrapper.

Does anyone know whether Reven's software still works or has his source of data been hit also?

I have to say that this is a real pain, especially if you weren't using the Sky channels anyway.. only Freeview.

openmedia: Yes sadly Sky have decided to issue C&D notices to a bunch of EPG hosting websites over the last week or two which is a real shame for the local PVR community.

This is just rediculous.  I can't see why EPG is considered I.P. or something that should be licensed.

To be honest, I wish someone would offer reliable download of EPG as a paid service.  I'd pay a few bucks a month to have it! The equivalent of a "TV guide" subscription!
