Yeah like JPNZ said, 55" is the minimum I'd want for a "lounge TV" and certainly where the value sweet spot is.The 48" inch is a really small space/bedroom TV and the 42" probably sells more as a desktop than an actual TV...

CS is a holiday special with the C2 processor, but the C1 body and screen. Differences are pretty marginal YoY for LG's OLED TVs TBH. Minor brightness differences mostly

Too bad the Panasonic cashback deal ended on the 16th, I got a pretty good deal on a 65" LZ1500 due to that...

Hi Everyone. I’d appreciate any views on the Metz brand. The Germans don’t tend to make bad kit, but I’d never heard of the brand before I saw it iin-store …..and I was immediately suspicious as that was in the Warehouse, and the deal on a 65 inch OLED was vaguely spectacular.

Subsequently I’ve seen other stores also carry the brand, plus I’ve read good reviews on international sites (which may be authorative).

Thoughts?

I wouldn't bother... If price is your priority why not pay a couple hundred more and get a Panasonic LZ980? They have been as cheap as $2,400 on sale (HN and NL currently $2799) sometimes the LG CS 65" can be had for around $2700 on special as well. The samsung S95B has been as low as $27xx as well

Thanks for that. I tend to agree there are options that seem a bit safer or more obvious. I just thought I’d get some views.

The deal at the Warehouse at the moment is that you get the Metz for $2500 and they GIVE you a 50’ JVC QLED!

As it happens, I’m not at all tempted as a 65’ is OTT for my room…55 would be plenty big.

cheers

Steve

FYI Metz as you might have historically known it was spun off into two companies, of which the TV business was sold to Skyworth, a Chinese OEM

Metz TVs as they exist now is just a rebranded Skyworth model, presumably consisting of an LG Display OLED panel but cheaper electronics, more basic OS, and less advanced picture processing than the higher end OEMs.

If it was significantly cheaper it might be worth a punt if you are not fussy, but as JPNZ said, the more reputable models are not too far away. 55" Panasonic LZ980 has been $<2k recently

That’s both interesting and helpful.

I did see that Panasonic deal and when I first looked about a fortnight ago, the local HN branch did not have it in stock. Now I see they do, so might investigate further.

Advice needed. We're replacing a 75"Samsung TV (QA75Q7FAM) that is wall mounted in a recess.  Currently using a 'One Connect' through a very small conduit as no power to the recess. (TV came with the house)

the room has windows with shutters at 9 and 6 oclock to the tv so it's a pretty bright room. Most use is TV/Netflix/Freeview/Sport delivered over fibre - no gaming required

Any suggestions for this setup? Seems Samsung is going away from their one connect solution with the only model i can see being the 75"Frame.

With the budget we have ($7k) it seems like we could buy a new tv and have some left over for a spark av/tech to resolve the cabling issues (plus work out what they hell the previous owner set up - no documentation was left.)

It depends what you’re after.

I recently bought a Hisense 55U7H for our second tv. It’s in a bright room and it’s pretty difficult to beat as far as value for money. Their U8H series is also nice with mini LED. The U7 is QLED.

Just be aware that the models in the US are different to their rest of the world so US reviews aren’t much use.

I’d buy another one tomorrow, we’re very happy with it, especially for the money.

After considering the previous responses, I’ve given the Metz option away; given that discount I’m very glad I didn’t go for the deal I had seen at the Warehouse!

cheers

Hey all, I’m looking for a cheap second tv - something 55-65” and less than $1000. Are there particular brands or retailers that are likely to have what I’m after? Any brands in particular to avoid? (At my budget it seems the main brands are TCL, Hisense, Philips, Kogan - does that seem about right?)

PBTech currently have the following Philips on sale https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/TVPHS82365/Philips-65PUT790679-65-4K-Android-Smart-TV-with-Am, but I can’t seem to find any reviews of it. Does anyone have any experiences with it?

The above Metz tvs sound exactly what I’m looking for, but seem to no longer be sold by Noel Leeming and the ones at the Warehouse are all $2k+. Is this just not a good time for tv deals? I can wait until later in the year if necessary.

I’ve read that buying a TV in winter isn’t good for getting a deal. That said, new models are coming out now, so many places seem to be discounting 2022 models, though this may still be OTT for a second TV.

Good Luck!

Steve

Not that far of is Black Friday deals, the Rugby World Cup (bound to be deals), and dare I say, Xmas/New Year.

Also in the market for a lounge TV with similar requirements! Upgrading from a 17 year old model...
