From memory it gets relatively expensive to buy TV’s in Nov-early Dec. If you want a deal on the latest model, I’d watch the prices with a view to days following Christmas (ie starting Boxing Day).

If “the latest” isn’t a bottom line, there are deals to be had on 2022 models if you can track one down. I brought a 55 inch Panasonic OLED for ~$2600 about 6 weeks ago. It’s very nice.

Good luck 🙏

Steve

Sales(Black Friday)Typically start at the end of Nov. This year looks to be the weekend of Nov 24th. Probably best time to buy a new TV...you could include Easter weekend as well. I think Boxing day sales arent the biggie that they used to be. So save the Pingas and go hard at the end of this month.

What I did, which might still be possible or might not, is get a Price Promise. Noel Leeming and Harvey Norman both did this for me and when I purchased my TV just before the Black Friday sales from HN they provided a Promise to match any future sale prices up to Boxing Day. I got them to put it on the comments in the system against my purchase and come Boxing Day it did go on sale for less (Black Friday was same price I got it for) and they refunded the difference no questions asked.

I went through two S95Bs before switching to LG C2 beginning of the year, hopefully the new gen are better reliability wise!

Once you do get it whatever you do, DO NOT touch the screen with your fingers/get anything on it then wipe it. The Samsung (and Sony I think) panels use a moth eye filter to assist in light deflection and once you wipe the screen, at an angle you are left with a blue/purple haze. I think it can only be removed with some pretty strong chemicals.

This is my current dilemma, I have an X90J and I need to clean the screen and I'm terrified.

Yeah, I don't think LG or Panasonic use the same moth eye filter. Ive wiped my LG CX for years and never had any issues, albeit very gently and with a lens microfiber cloth from an optometrist.

I had no idea about the moth eye filter technology on these tvs, until I wiped some fly droppings and was left with a purple haze that would not disappear. Luckily the tv died a few months later so it went back to Samsung. If you do need to wipe something off it, I would recommend a microfiber cloth that you get for wiping camera/glasses lens.

I have a Sony A80J OLED and have no issues wiping the screen with a good cloth. Must be only the LED based Sony Products?

Dunnersfella:

I was about to chime in re: Harvey Norman dropping Sony... it had nothing to do with quality, just a falling out relationship wise.

Re: choosing a TV because of 'built in ATMOS' or a built-in sound bar is something I can never recommend.

First up, ATMOS in TV is just a teli company trying to get in on a buzz-word. ATMOS is bad enough on a sound bar, but coming from the back of a TV?

Tell 'im he's dreaming!

Built in sound bars typically have poor quality sound and some don't even come with a subwoofer.

The new LG's certainly intrigue me, but I'm disappointed with their current implementation of eARC (no PCM and no DTS).

Odd choices.

Sony's top OLED's have always looked amazing to me, the processing on-board seems to be the best of the bunch to my eyes.

Way to bring up a very old post but I see Sony are back at Harvey Norman now

I asked the very same question of the forum about 6 months ago (maybe search for Metz on the forum and you’ll see). Deals that seemed crazy.

The basic response was “you get what you pay for” and “for not much more $$$$$ you can get top brand if you get a reasonable deal”.

I followed that advice.

That said, the Metz might be a reasonable “second tv” option.

Good Luck.

A question if i may RE: Hisense U7K Mini LED TVs. Are the NZ ones the "same" as models around the world? I have read differing opinions on Hisense supposedly making them the same model wise around the world? Then i read that some 2022 Models had different Panels ie better than NZ specced ones. Just that i have a family member wanting a 65" TV up to $2K(i would love to say just buy an OLED but not at $2K lol)and the U7K Model seems to be getting mostly great Bang for Buck reviews everywhere. Im trying to find them a TV that does a great job with Black levels/Blooming for the Price. Any other 65" models in the $2K range to look at? Of course i will be keeping my eyes on the Black Friday sales.
