theitman: Has anyone seen those metz OLED tvs at the warehouse? Interested to see what they are like @$999

I’ve been using the 65 Metz for 4 months now and would definitely recommend one at those sale prices ($1300 65”) The built in androidtv is somewhat average so I’d recommend a chrome cast or similar. I rate it right up there with my LG C1 despite lacking the gaming features (hdmi2.1, vrr, hgig etc)

While OLED seems to be the tech choice, for where we're placing the TV I'm leaning towards to a QLED QNED (like an LG 55QNED816) screen due to the ambient light.

I'd be interested to hear others thoughts on the QLED/QNED or even mini LED options.

I want good but don't need over the top screen quality.

FYI I shared your concerns regarding ambient light in my living room (one large, west facing, window roughly 3 metres to the side edge of the TV cabinet) when looking at OLED TV’s. I decided to go that direction anyway, and haven’t had any issues with lighting.

Others may share their experience if the light is coming in from different directions.

Thanks for the reply. Price wise there's quite a step up to OLED. I'm debating the value proposition.

Just replaced our aging LED with an OLED in a family room. Lots of windows around an open plan area, and can't say I have noticed any problems. The old LED TV was terrible, always pulling curtains or blinds to stop light from ruining the picture, but the OLED so far is going great. Normal retail price I wouldn't have bothered and would have gone QLED/QNED, but got a great Christmas deal at nearly 1/2 price, the extra cost was more than worth it by comparison.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

What did you get? How old was the LED TV?

We got an LG C3 Evo OLED. The old TV we replaced was a Samsung LED TV, top model 10+ years ago.

I bought a 55 inch Hisense QLED for our family room this year. It was replacing a garbage tier LG. Picture quality and features (120Hz, Freesync etc) are great and it was half the price of the equivalent LG C1. I have a C1 in another room and the picture quality is better but for a secondary TV I’m extremely satisfied with the value of the Hisense.

I’ve got an LG CX 65inch OLED and also a more recent LG 65inch QNED. The QNED is in the family room and used for gaming. It’s awesome, fast, bright and very happy with it.

The OLED is on our main lounge. Better over all quality and supports Dolby vision and Dolby atmos. I prefer the screen for movies. Not ideal in bright sunshine and the screen does reflect which can be annoying.

Both TV’s are great. OLED is better but if you go QNED it will do the job just fine and prob not quite as good for movie watching (I do like Dolby vision).

Pretty much every decent TV does wifi and Bluetooth but casting is a sh*tshow with who does and doesn’t support it. AirPlay is more widely supported.

Just buy a chromecast and call it a day.

Looks like LG support casting and I suspect Samsung do as well since their mobile devices support casting.

AirPlay isn't any use, not a Apple device in sight at our place. Chromecast AFAIK only works with Chrome browser, don't use that either.

Otherwise MS Wireless Display Adapters work well.

Huh?

“Casting” is a google standard and is an abbreviation of chromecast. Chromecasts are casting targets and work with any device that casts.

Thanks for the info.

I've never had to use a Chromecast device/dongle but everything I've read about their use mentions using Chrome browser, hence my comment. Obviously I had misunderstood how it worked.
