You can pre-order the most expensive model right now with release date set for 12th August in NZ. 1TB and 500GB versions will be even cheaper

They confirmed 60fps when they originally announced file playback update so yes I imagine so, its makes such a huge difference along with hdr, the pixel res dont even matter really

The likes of Mightyape are advertising the new xbox for $648, based on that is anyone willing to estimate what a standalone 4K UHD blu-ray player would cost?

The Samsung K8500 player launched in Aussie a few weeks ago at $599 - and some places were selling it at $499 (AUD).

So I guess NZ will be between $599 and $699 (NZD) for this model. I believe other models will be more expensive.

The Xbox could easily be a compelling buy if it does a good job.

Can anyone verify please?

I heard from two different people over the last two days... that Samsung will not be bringing the UHD player into NZ.

Does anyone know if this is true?

Or will it initially only be available to certain retailers?

Hopefully these people had their wires crossed...

I got mine a a while ago when amazon first got preorders, I paid $800 to get it here including customs/shipping/jaycar 240 to 110 I rarely even watch anything on my htpc, this accepts every file playback I throw at it, id imagine the xbox does the same and the quality is just jaw dropping at that price point xbox is mighty tempting...

I'm expecting stand alone players to be much more expensive than our Aussie counterparts.  We always tend to get ripped on technology prices.

I have a Samsung imported from Australia. Here is the back panel. Note the R-NZ compliance label. This indicates radio spectrum certification for NZ. This certification isn't applicable in Australia, only here (RCM states that "The R-NZ is a New Zealand only radio label for radio products not harmonised with Australia."

Here is the documentation that came with the player. A paper manual, an Australian warranty registration form, and a New Zealand warranty registration form:

Here is the Samsung's NZ product page for the player: http://www.samsung.com/nz/support/model/UBD-K8500/XY

In summary, this product will definitely be sold here.

I bought a PS3 when it was launched because it was the cheapest blu ray player at that time ...

I wonder if I might go and buy a PS4/Xbox One this time round ;p

Will the new xbox play the discs, or is its UHD HDR support only for streaming?
