I have had the new HD decoder installed, and am happy with it. I decided to keep my other old mysky as well.

The problem I have is that both decoders are in a central located cupboard, and I use ir senders in each room to send the remote signal back to the decoders. Both remotes and decoders run on the same frequencey, and sky have said there is no fix.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A WAY ROUND THIS, or the same problem?

One way would be an IR router which is more a specialist solution and would require a suitable programmeable remote.

Slack of Sky to have this problem especially given their goal of greatly increasing the use of multiroom.

Had mine installed yesterday and so far have recorded 3 movies and about 3 TV Shows. It's working like a charm.

One issue that cropped up is channel surfing using the channel number. Now you need 3 numbers to get to the correct channel. ie if you want channel 3 you need to type in 003 where the old box would accept just 3 and switch channels.

Still picture quailty via HDMI is excellent on the HD channels and now I can finally watch my 4:3 content in 14:49 rather than stretched 4:3 which drove me up the wall!

MySky has always had 3 digit numbers to select channels, you get used to it pretty quickly as long as you don't select numbers to fast.

Already answered here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=34&TopicId=24614&page_no=2#152469, but essentially TV3/SM/SMG are 576i over component, SS1/SS2 are 1080i.

The box can be set to output HD in 576p, 720p, 1080i, auto (handshake with TV decides resolutuion) or passthrough. So far any time I've switched to passthrough all the HD channels have been 1080i which differs from Sky's quoted "well transmit it in the resolution we get it" stance. Interestingly my TV is a Sony V series 720p but it accepts a 1080 signal (and presumably downscales it), although I was expecting to get a blank screen. The picture is definitely better when the Sky box sends it at 720p though.

Is anybody having problems getting Dolby 5.1 to work? My HDi is connected to my TV (Panasonic Viera) via HDMI, and then I have component audio output from my TV to my 5.1 capable receiver. In watching CSI last night which is supposed to be broadcast in 5.1 I was only receiving stereo output, not 5.1. I also tried connecting component audio straight from my HDi box to my stereo receiver bypassing the TV but it didn't make any difference. Any help would be appreciated. Am I doing something wrong?

Otherwise loving the picture. CSI looked amazing and the little bit of rugby I watched last night looked incredible also. Can't wait to see the test in HD on the weekend.

Component audio ?, what you are probably dealing with is the fact that none of the boxs will pass DD up the HDMI port only stereoPCM, you need to use the optical or coaxial spdif output.

When you say "component audio" do you mean s/pdif? You will need to use an optical connection to get 5.1 (not sure if coaxial is enabled).

Also there may be an audio setting in the menu to be enabled.

Have to agree the rugby last night was very sharp and CSI was crystal clear

Question - probably for Cyril - is it possible for SKY to up the bit rates that a channel is broadcast at for certain events? The All Blacks game on Saturday seems to be the thing most early adopters are looking forward to - I imagine SKY wants this game to be the absolute best they can to showcase the benefits of HD - so can they up the bitrates that this is broadcast at - or is it just a fixed range for the channel

Yes the stat mux and encoders can be given different weightings as desired, as to if they actually use such a feature in the course of normal operations, I dont know.

RCA meaning one red and one white cable. These will only pass through stereo sound (one passes the left signal and the other the right - hence only two cables). You will need an optical cable from the sky box straight to the amp (this passes through a digtial signal and therefore carries the full sound ie 5.1)

Thanks everyone for your help. Will have it all connected correctly tonight! Would be helpful if the Sky install team set things up this way from day one. I wonder how many people are out there like me that know they should be getting 5.1 but aren't because they don't have the knowledge to fix it.

Had problems with the live pause, skipping on playpack. Paused the Simpsons on Prime for the kids went to play and evry 10 secs or so it would skip forward 5 secs (yup right over the couch bit!)

Tried on a few other channels and did the same on discovery. Did the power off/on and it seems to be ok now.

Managed to kill it later in the night by trying out the interactive games & after about 3 mins it hung, It kept showing the frozen game and I could see the ibanner and change that but no picture or sound, so another reboot.

hopefully I haven't got a dud one!

If it keeps doing that, try doing a reboot from the front panel, press back and the select buttons together.

See if that makes any difference.

There is a little red reset button beside the smartcard. would that do the same thing?

Yup.

If you also have MySky 1 you can use back and select to reset that if needed.

My brother tried to get 720p, 1080i on his Samsung over component, but because his TV does not have HDCP it would not accept the HD signal. Seems like TV's that are HD capable and slightly older without HDMI must have HDCP to get the HD from MySky. Is there a work around?
