I tend to agree Paul, I c an't find a single device that works to my standard... The only thing that would come close is a full windows PC running Kodi... I have been there in the past and it seems wild overkill but if even the Shield is flawed (and it is), then maybe it's what I'll go back to.

Cheers - N

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe a NUC. My problem is I want to do two rooms, so that's an expensive way to do it.

We used to have iPlayer and Channel4 and I think NF US on a Fire TV that worked. We still do, just never seems to get used, so maybe it doesn't any more. But just a (cheaper) thought.

Paul1977: For now I’ll stick with what I had been using; LG TV apps and Xbox. They have their own limitations (otherwise I wouldn’t have been looking at upgrading) but going for the Apple or Shield just seemed like trading one set of limitations for another after using both for a couple of weeks.

Maybe the ultimate device that perfectly suits my needs just doesn’t exist.

The perfect/ultimate device doesn't really exist.

The Apple TV doesn't support bitstream audio or Dolby Vision profile 7 playback.

The Shield does but the range of apps isn't quite as good (no Channel4/All4 on Android TV).

Both will use considerably less power than a Xbox or Playstation.

Smart TV platforms tend to have codec issues (eg. no DTS on recent LGs) and it can be difficult/impossible to get apps from different regions working.

As for a PC, I'd prefer to saw off a foot than try and get that working properly. And that's without thinking about the usability issues for the rest of the family!
