$2

$2 is about how good the coverage is worth in NZ for Voda aint it

Attacking the company I work for does not help you!

Why not share with us all your job back ground?

John

Yes but I'm not the one with the big ego tryna show off to everbody am i?

And I work for the Department of Conservation by the way.

I'm not entirely sure what your first sentence means but I get the gist.

I think you might find if you found out a bit more about JohnR that he provides a hell of alot of help to Vodafone customers on geekzone (as well as occasionally spouting the party line :)).

The fact that he's got Vodafone  on his signature has probably got a bit more to do with accountabilty and transparency than a large ego...

cgrew: I started this discussion to determine whether or not the cables were any good - not to talk about how much they got talked up.

Interesting, since it seems you don't want to accept other opinions...

That's all very nice but that is not the reason I commented about his ego (Vodafone NZ signature) it was the unnecessary smarta**e comments he posted earlier in this thread.

cgrew: .... but my reason for mentioning speed earlier was because if the image couldn't get from point A to point B I would of thought there would be some type of distortion in the picture??

Being digital, there would be no distortion.. but if you had a faulty cable then you'd likely see sparkling (caused by minor disruption/corruption to the data stream), choppy or jittery video/audio (caused by large disruption/corruption), or no picture at all (complete disruption of data stream).

None of those are distortion - which I would personally describe as a wavy picture with ghosting like you'd see on an analogue signal.

All of the above are from a faulty cable, not interference or data transmission speed issues.

Cheers distortion was the wrong word I was looking for - disruption or currupted picture is a more appropiate suggestion.

I appreciate the angst, but I do believe I wasn't doing anything more than posting an observation. You seem to get quite wound up that people here don't have the same opinion as you... I can certainly see your point of view, and why you're forming the hypotheses that you have, but I feel that your reasoning is flawed due to your misunderstanding of how the technology works.

I'd be the first to admit that I don't know everything about how HDMI works, in fact, I know very little - other than basing my understanding on digital communication mediums.

FYI, this sentence, and the first 4 words of my first paragraph of this post constitute a smartass response.

Having just read through this thread it seems to me you started it because pageweon disagreed with you and you wanted validation of an opinion you had already formed.

When is your double-blind experiment scheduled to take place? Will there be a live feed?

Meesham's guide to discussing HDMI cables:

1) Post a thread on Geekzone explaining your hypothesis about cable quality
2) Have everyone disagree with you, explaining the flaw in your reasoning
3) Ignore all reason and stick with original hypothesis, using a sample size of 1 to back up your theory
4) Have everyone again explain the flaw in your logic
5) Start attacking people when you're not able to win anyone over
6) ???
7) Profit

Now THAT'S a smart arse response...

sbiddle: I'll put the $$ on the table now and come around to your place with the pizza, beer

Regardless of where this thread ends up, can I still get a beer please?Wink

I think you will find the whole topic can be summed up with:

All passive cables do nothing to improve the picture, they simply deliver it.
A passive cable is considered to be more betterer if it will deliver the signal as close as possible to what it originated like.
Monster make very good cables
They cost way too much.
In many cases the same results can be had with substantially cheaper cables.

To the contrary I'm not getting wound up - not too sure how you can tell if someone is getting wound up over posting?

I suppose we could go on forever but I will be the first to admit that I'm limited to how much of a smartass I can be with intillegent words as such as I'm only 21 and going by your photo your around hmm 50? Laughing
