I didn't notice a big difference for some reason, I know how much of a difference it normally makes (brief spout selling LCD's & Plasmas).... was a little miffed.

Will have a play with the settings, its on a S-Series 40 "Bravia . . . anyone else had experiences with this one?

Maybe it's your viewing distance?

I have a 32" S Series MKII and figure with a 3.5-4m viewing distance and the advantage of S-video switching on the AVR, that going component just won't be worth the effort.

I have macros set up on a remote and with 3 video sources s-video switching keeps the rest of the family happy.

Still stuck on 0320 on my silver sky box :(

I assume I have one of the boxes that doesn't support component output.

I presume by silver box you are refering to the Pace DS-230 a very small paperback sized silver box, this is does support component and I understand is due for update on the 28th of October.

It probably is to be honest, though artifacts just appear much more noticeable, I guess it can't be helped on a big screen without HDTV being availible :/

We had our decoder replaced sat 30/10 with one of the new pace DS-230s but in the setup screen there is no option for component out, only S-Video, Composite or RGB. Has the firmware update not been rolled out or was it perhaps done while mine was still sat in a box somewhere... is there someway I can get it to manually check for updates?

The DS230 isn't due (on the current schedule) to be updated until Nov 28th.

After reading this thread i ordered a DS230 from Sky so that I can get the component o/p when it becomes available. The first DS230 I got (which was obviously used) tended to lock up a lot with the remote having no effect. The remote was outputting as i could see the IR light blink on the TV when it was pressed.

Sky sent the tech around with a new one, but I am getting similar problems on this one as well, although slightly different in that after pressing the remote to chage channels etc, the DS230 reacts a few minuts (yes minutes0 later and does some of the things I had tried to do with the remote a little earlier???? I have two remotes for the box so it aint the remote. Anyone else had these types of issues with the DS230?

Some of the early DS230s had a problem with their IR detectors being misaligned with the case. If you check the serial number / barcode label on the back of the decoder on the LHS (looking from the back) then it should have an asterisk on its left-hand end to show that the detector is in the correct position. Also, could you check the software version in the Diagnostics menu. It should be 0320. Some DS230s with very early software showed a problem like the lag you are reporting.

Thanks Manaia, I can check the serial etc tonight, but I do know the software version is 0001, I have been waiting for it to upgrade to 320 (and then 340 soon) but nothing yet.

It sounds as though your new DS230 is one of a new lead-free version of the decoder that SKY released recently. They can't work on 0320 so are sitting on an interim software version (0001) until 0340 comes out at the end of the month. 0340 will then work on both leaded and unleaded boxes.

My best guess is that you have lucked out twice: your first DS230 probably had the misaligned IR receiver problem and your second is just (to the best of my ability to diagnose) broke. Sorry, but the best advice I can give is to call SKY CS and ask for another replacement.

Thanks, bloody funny really, they already sent a guy round and he changed a dodgy F connector on the LNB, as strange at it might sound, it didnt fix the decoder problem :) I will wait for 340 and see if that cures the problem first, I can always get off my arse and change from the front panel in the meantime. Appreciate your help.

Has anyone else noticed lines of static across the top 1/3 of the sky guide page since the upgrade? Was hoping it might have been temporary but its stuck around.
