JPNZ:

HN has the 65" S90C for $2,888 with free delivery. FYI

yeh cheers, all the major retailers have copied the PB campaign price drop from ~$4700 to $2899.

I doubt it will get lower this year, but no DV just HDR10+. But they both do HDR right? From what Ive seen of pixel peeping side by side I highly doubt Id notice the difference. Same with pixels, and same with panel speeds, but I dont want something lagging on me connected to the Xbox S X playing Golf or NFL.

Both HDR10+ and DV have a HDR10 layer with static Metadata to fall back to. both just add scene-to-scene dynamic Metadata but DV has the greatest market share, as it is exceedingly rare to find a HDR10+ movie in the wild.

I have an older L1500Z Panasonic OLED (based on LGD WOLED), since they have the best tuning in the business and also supports hdr10+ and DV, which i can attest to the latter with a UHD copy of Mad Max Fury Road. The sandstorm scene is a transient experience with a good OLED display( along with the rest of the movie which is a cinematic masterpiece and I won't hear otherwise)

That is good a nugget if info. Cheers.

It makes me wonder why if QD-OLED is the crossover tech from Samsung that fixes many of the issues associated with traditional OLED, why they wouldn't have gone with DV, unless the two are not compatible?

HDR wise, what came first DV or HDR10+?

No problem, and commercials reasons really; it was created by Samsung and Amazon, and Samsung, Panasonic, and 20th Century Fox formed a consortium to push it. That's why you will never see Samsung implementing it, but Panasonic doing both.

Additionally, Dolby Vision is propreitary to, funnily enough, Dolby, and attracts royalties; whereas HDR10+ is royalty free, but I guess the Dolby brand name is worth it in the TV manufacturers eyes.

No idea who was first, looks like both were introduced around the late 2010s

Looking for some advice on a new TV:

  • Will be wall mounted in a bright room (but no direct sunlight on the tv)
  • Exclusively stream via Freeview app/Disney+, Prime Video etc so no bluray use
  • Aware that you don't buy a tv for its smart functions, but given it will be wall mounted don't really want a seperate box so Google/Android TV built in would be preferred
  • Wife really wants a Samsung Frame TV, so whatever I go with needs to be relatively thin when wall mounted
  • Viewing angle is an issue

What i've considered so far

  • 55 inch Sony A80L - Amazing picture, but I suspect with OLED it won't be bright enough, circa $2400
  • 65 inch Sony X95L - Mini LED, roughly same price as the A80L
  • Sony X90L = Circa $2k for 55 inch or $2400 for 65 inch.

Anything else I should be considering? Samsung S90C 65 inch is around $2888 from JB.

Appreciate i'm doing this at the wrong time (stores have already largely done their run outs for 2023 models)

I'd just note that having a TV wall mounted doesn't always rule out also using an external device. Something like a GCCWGTV should fit no matter how close the mounting is as it's so tiny. I've got enough space behind mine for something like an Apple TV (OLEDs in particular terms to be thicker at the bottom and thin in the top half, which means a good amount of space).

Fair, we currently use a mibox connected to a 2018 era KDL-W660F Sony 50 inch. Sometimes needs to be turned off and on, and I don't think I could do that if it was in a recessed media box.

I have Apple TV placed behind two of my wall mounted TVs. Both just secure with double side tape to the back of the TV. It would be different if you were wanting somehting more flush mounted but most wall brackets will leave plenty of space for a streaming box to be placed there.

Exactly; reinforces my earlier point.

I have previously had a switch for multiple Ethernet-enabled things plugged into the TV and still have a multibox to power the GCCWGTV and a Nanoleaf screen mirror LED strip. These all just fit behind the TV, not in any cavity.

Id take the S90C for that money. Don't stress about the brightness at all. OLED's get plenty bright

That was such a good deal... good to see that people are getting over the phobia of used OLEDs.

My panasonic ex-demo model from JB-HiFi is still going strong!
