ludez: Can anyone confirm konic is the same as veon? This has identical UI to the veons

Identical sounds promising.

Do they have a 3 year warranty too?

Are they in the harmony database with discrete input IR commands.
(I have a spare remote so might go and try with the Veons in store if they do...)

That UI seems to be really common among lots of brands, I have had several veons that have looked the same UI but different remotes, so hopefully all the models are clones from the same chinese OEM.

Just checked and there is no Konic in the harmony database, and not input options on a Konika other than 'Next Input', which is still useless.

Trying to recall what the hotel tv I had in sydney in the "potts point" hotel which really was kings cross was. Might have a picture of it but it was 2+ years ago now.

That 65" is quite a deal. For my setup, with smarts from an Xbox One S and sound via a receiver, all I need is a display device.

Viewing angle etc is about the only unknown. 3 year warranty is pretty good really, and likely to be reasonably hassle free with a big store chain like the warehouse.

That's what I was thinking and that three year warranty means the company stand by there product and have faith in it. Even the bigger brands don't have a 3 year warranty. The 8ms response time that the specs claim is the clincher though if true for a large screen 65" 4K TV. That is great for gaming. Normally that is much higher in such a large screen 4K TV. Here is an article from The warehouse regarding Veon brand back in 2011 that states that the VEON range is manufactured in China using the same components as leading brands such as Samsung, LG and other large LCD/LED manufacturers. Yeah, they're miles better than the old transonic house brand.

Smaller models have/or at least had a real glass stand etc. Was all pretty good. UI isn't bad either really.

Just sht inbuilt sound, make no mistake about it, it's totally and utterly rubbish.

And, no discrete IR input commands. Which may not be an issue if it starts on the same input each time reliably. That would need to be tested if the 4K hdmi 2.0 input is hdmi 2 for example. Without the discrete input commands a harmony remote struggles to reliably ensure it's on the right input for you.

I can't comment on the veons being HDMI 2.0.
But the konic is definitely 2.0.

It has a 2 year warranty I believe as well.

I assume they are made in the same factory as veon and just rebadged

I was going to purchase the Veon 43" 4K that is currently on sale (SRO434K2016 $449) as a second monitor on my PC.

Unfortunately after visiting the store I left empty handed.

* the colours were very dull and washed out

* the edges of the images (pixar animation playing) were blurry

* there was horrible motion lag

* visible scan lines going through parts of the screen at times

ironically it was sitting next to a 50 something inch Full HD Veon screen which in comparison the picture quality was far far better, colours, sharpness everything.

It may be improved with a true HDMI 2.0 input (if it supports it) but I'm not prepared to take the risk.

Yeah it's interesting to see if feeding these 4K units with anything other than 4K is going to work ok image quality wise.

Most Bluray and DVD collections, and all freeview broadcasts are not heading to 4K any time soon, so it's important that a 4K TV can display HD well.

It's also really really hard to gauge performance in store, as you usually have no idea what they're feeding display units with to start with, in terms of source, cables, input type used etc.

Saw a 42" Konka TV today and agree its very very similar to the Veons. The giveaways being the UI design, the large IR receiver lump of the lower right of screen and the completely crap audio from the TV alone.

Seriously might consider IF there were discrete input IR commands, instead of just having the 'source' remote button and directional keys to go on.

576i content on a 4K panel is still a big issue, and not one that's ever going to change. I was in Farmers a few weeks ago and they had FTA Choice TV running on all their TV's - their picture is bad enough on a Full HD panel, let alone on a 4K panel. IMHO it was actually verging on unwatchable.

And yeah. It's more a case of since there's no pixels you can be close enough to the TV's that the mpeggy crap and deinterlacing artifacts are so large they can't be ignored. It's almost as if you need a second smaller tv to watch blurry vision crap on. Or else a way of postage stamping it on the 4k screen to suit the extreme low resolution.

I'm extremely happy with my 49" 4K konic. I really am, even 1080p looks fantastic. 4K though looks brilliant

Veon 65 inch 4k UHD TV model SRO654K2016. (paid $999).

Bought this a couple of weeks ago. My assessment, as compared to my Sony 55in 2YO TV.

Picture Quality: Better and sharper, vivid colours, reasonable blacks. I'm no serious geek, though found picture as good if not better than most of the branded $2000+ TV.

Sound Quality: Adequate if you have a smaller room. Though I connected a Veon Sound bar ($99 Bluetooth 2.0), could not get to work via HDMI, so connected it via AV/AUX.

Remote Control: Better than I expected, quite stylish, little annoying you need to press OK after selecting source.

PRV: Only seems to be able to record on the fly, what you are watching on DTV, (Wont record other inputs). I was not able to setup delayed recording, programmed recording. Though not so important in my situation.

Sky/TiVo Connectivity: Works fine, will probably need to upgrade freeview recorder, when TiVo finishes?

Smart Capability: NONE, though again not necessary in my situation (see below). Unfortunately this TV does not support Bluetooth.

PC Connectivity: Excellent, especially as the sound bar works perfectly via PCs Bluetooth capability.

Overall generally very happy with this purchase. Great picture (for the money). Drawbacks, RC limitations, mediocre sound, Lack of Bluetooth, limited recording functionality.
