Yeah I noticed that. I don't use mine much but it's key to my RWC experience and if it doesn't work well I'll be grumpy as anything.
they should have withdrawn the update really so people who dont have it yet dont get it and waited until 8.0.1 - pretty crap they didnt.
i mentioned some of my issues in a previous post here, on the SHIELD forums there is a bunch of others. here is a list nvidia has confirmed with 8.0.0 and it
i will probably jinx it now but i seemed to have solved my kernal panic issues by doing a factory reset
there is probably another 10+ issues missing from this list from other forum posts
- Multiple Streaming apps failing to play for small number of users, netflix errors 116/115. (pfft not to small)
- The match content color space displaying incorrect format.
- Can't set the default launcher.
- VC1 playback not working.
- Volume UI with android P too bright, takes too long to disappear.
- Some controllers joysticks snap back to the center at the end of joystick travel. (Was in First HotFIx image)
- IR volume control not working when anything is turned on in accessibility
- When using Adoped storage, sdcard/InternalStorage not accessible.
- SHIELD Remote App connection issues & d-pad not working
- SHIELD Controller 2017 fails OTA with "accessory disconnected" error.
- Pointer appears in PubG. Will be fixed in next release.
- System volume (Navigation) sounds lower in Android P/SE8.0 than Android O/SE7.x. Confirmed, reviewing reason for the change, considering to revert.
- Launcher app Icons zoomed/cropped. Investigating.
- TV loses sync (no input) on modesets (power on, wake from sleep, refresh/resolution changes). Investigating.
- Custom DNS entries appear to revert back to default. This is a UI issue, the custom DNS is in use but the default ones are being displayed. Will be fixed in future release.
- USB dac passthrough not working in Kodi. Investigating.
- USB audio level reset to 25% on reboot. Investigating.
- Wifi disconnects. Investigating.
- Wifi throughput issues causing 4k streaming, etc issues. Investigating.
- HD Audio dropouts. Investigating

nah its been doing it all along, just thought the update might help. Pity its out of warranty, Amazon would have exchanged it.
thats annoying
changed the HDMI cable?
Tried a different port on the TV?
Updated TV Firmware?
and probably most impotantly - factory reset the SHIELD and started again?
Ok finally nailed this problem, for the enlightenment of all who may find the same challenge- resetting shield did NOT fix it but changing a setting in the advanced video settings did. This setting is in settings- device preferences-display and sound- advanced display settings (latest firmware on shield)
By default the shield detects TV resolution (actually it detects the HDMI switch in my Bose Lifestyle home theater) as "1920x1080 59.940 Hz, RGB 8-bit Rec. 709" . If I change to "1920x1080 59.940 Hz, YUV 444 8-bit Rec. 709" the sync drop is fixed.
The settings on TV had to change a bit to make it look right again as the picture looked a bit washed out (brightness suddenly too high)
Cheers
nice work
keep in mind, there is new HDMI sync issues in 8.0.0 that are not fixed yet, so if it happens again, may not be your original bug but the new one they introduced

Mine looses sync with my Samsung TV as well, once in a while it drops to static over and over - I just restart it and it seems to fix itself. Is that what happens to you?
Only Since 8.0.0 ? i am only loosing sync during the wake/tv on process not during use. has the unit actually crashed and you have to power cycle it? what if you turn the tv off
and back on does it come back?
sorry I didn't read these in order, see my other post explaining the fix that worked for me.
But turning any of the units on/off didn't fix the issue at the time.
when moving quickly between the options in apps or the content i.e netflix/kodi/plex I can get micro stutter and can see it visually lag, an issue I've never noticed with my mibox.
Actual video playback if fine however.
Gamestream, streaming a game from my PC is alright but its not a simple plug and play process. There's a bit of fluffing around to get it working properly, for each game.. but once you've set it up for that game its good the next time around.
Most annoying part is when you have to do something on the computer (my pc is upstairs) so going backwards and forwards is the biggest PIA about it, I thought there was going to be more smarts behind this service but its literally just mirroring the game from the PC and passing through the imputs so you cant even using the computer at the same time which to put it simply, sucks.
Has anyone found a speedtest app that sounded require sideloading? I couldn't find anything on the playstore.
Looking at one of these as I've gifted my parents my smart telly and am taking the dumb one off them. Love my shield tablet.
Just one question - do they get local apps? TVNZ/lightbox etc? (Are they just the stock android versions?)
TVNZ - yes, Lightbox no. You can use Lightbox via a Kodi add-on

and still no official sky or spark apps (why not, multi- billion dollar companies?)
Have sidelodaed LightBox, Sparksport, Amazon Prime, SmartVu Freeview App and all work.

Where are you sourcing your APK's? I always have this paranoia that they might have something malicious in them when downloading from third parties...
Playtech has the gaming version for $319 + shipping
I'm still on the fence though; my LG TV's webOS has good enough app support for the now, and given an updated shield is supposed to be in the near future, I'm not seeing a whole lot of reason to get one now other than having something new to play with. Additionally, I don't use atmos, no streaming service has lossless audio, and I don't use local playback, so..... yeah.....

Same here, my new Sony Android TV is surprisingly snappy and able to play 4k remux without issue.
