That looks like it's hosted in the US so I wonder how any C&D order might work?

Now... if we can point FreeviewNZ-EPG to this site instead... we might be back in business. Might be time to try a LocalHosts entry when I get home and see if it can be fooled into using this IP address.

i tried running it, it seems to still work. just freeview channels. no sky.

i used to use this as an external app for epgstream.net but since epgstream is not yet windows 7 compatible, i just use the inbuilt dvb-s eit stream.

Don't suppose you could modify this to pass through the flag by any chance ie the HD flags, these are in the xml files on the Freeview site.

I've gone back to using my old EIT scraper, but unfortunately the flag either isn't broadcast using DVB-S EIT or DVBGuide doesn't recognise it.

This doesn't present any issues for Sky, who use HD through the title etc (easy enough to script this into useable info, but for Freeview, well thats another story.

Not a biggy if its alot of work.

My one does pass the quality through - I am setting it to "HDTV" if the HD flag is set.

Based on the directory structure, that should work. But I just tried and it doesn't for some reason. I put the entry
74.207.253.88 epg.pvr.geek.nz
into the hosts file, and a ping proves it is taking effect, but my browser is not accessing the website. I just get a blank page.

I think the author of that program will need to change it to access the new location.

Anyone know if there is any chance of Sky channels being included in the all.xml.gz?

If the original C&D order was from Sky why was the whole site taken down? Did Freeview complain as well about the FTA EPG file or was it because this contained Prime EPG data?

I've had a look from home now and the software appears to be looking for :

I suspect the extra /epg/ subdirectory is causing the problem.

Interesting.. while I have been playing around the http://nzepg.org site appears to have dropped off. I wonder if it has had a bit of extra traffic! :-)

Correction: Its back now... may have just being updating. Also... I briefly saw an epg directory appear and then it disappeared at the next refresh. Suggests some testing is going on.

I was hosting the data at epg.pvr.geek.nz but am not the owner of the domain. A C&D went to the owner of the domain who removed the DNS for the site.

Thanks Guys for the good work keeping me upto date.
I have repointed my batch file to http://nzepg.org/ and can now get the EPG for freeview. Much apprecieated all who got that up and running. I feel for those with Sky, luckily I don't have Sky so not an issue for me.

Living in Australia a few years ago I recall ICE-TV having the same issues with a channel (Channel nine maybe) claiming ownership of their data. I think they went to court over this (at the very least legal action was threatened) but either ICE won or nine backed down. The problem here is this EPG's are all hosted by little guys on a shoe string and no-one wants to/can afford to pay lawyers.

Hell I would back down if Sky came looking at me.

I would have thought the best bet is to get Ice-TV to produce Sky data - they will know the lay of the law much better and what threats are real and what is not. If I had SKY I would pay a few $$$ a month for an EPG.

OK. Just in case there is anybody out there as thick as me... I have always thought that there was some clever translation required to get the data from the format on the web sites into the necessary format for the TVGuide.XML that MediaPortal uses. Thus... the various bits of software out there to do the job.

From what I can now see it is actually very simple and, once I had worked it out, I of course found the explanation in another topic on GeekZone. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=84&TopicId=25503.

Don't you hate it when that happens! They even have a sample batch file to show how it works off the old epg.geek site.

As you can see... all it requires are two basic command line utilities WGET and GZIP off the web and you can then write a basic batch file to download the file from http://nzepg.org (using WGET), unzip it using GZIP, rename it to tvguide.XML and copy it into your MediaPortalTVServer directory.

I've just imported this into Mediaportal and it looks pretty good to me and I now have EPG data past Thursday this week! It was looking grim for a while!

I'm sure you lot all knew this all along but... I just thought I'd mention it in case someone else out there was as slow as I obviously am!

Now I don't have to wait for FreeviewNZ-EPG to be updated... and I can fix it myself next time it moves URL.

A batch file is fine to get the xml file to the required folder, but what is the trick that freeviewNZ-EPG.exe uses to tell MediaPortal to import the data? Anyone?

its probably because your HTTP requests are going through a transparet proxy-cache and it will be using its own DNS, not yours, to do the fetching thus routing the requests to the original epg.pvr.geek.nz ip
