When I accessed Amazon US today, I thought that I'd have a look at my 4K wish list. I've been waiting so long for The Mask of Zorro: 25th Anniversary SteelBook to be reduced in price and today was the day... 42% discount for a limited time. I also grabbed reduced price Standard Editions of The Magnificent Seven (2016) and Air Force One to take me up to (and over) the NZ$80 threshold for free shipping. They say; "good things come to those who wait" just not as long as I've had to wait 😁

Mighty Ape appear to be back in the 4K game. I can't remember them offering a SteelBook Edition of a film before. But Oh!, those prices 😒

One thing in MighyApe’s favour, is that they will price match.

Done it a few times and being a Primate member there is free postage which adds to the saving as well.

The Top 3 Box-Office hits of 2024 have come, or are coming to the end of their worldwide theatrical runs, with very impressive numbers.

Dune: Part Two has passed  US$849 Million, Godzilla x Kong over US$563 Million and Kung Fu Panda 4 over US$533 Million. These are great results for the studio's involved.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is going along nicely 10 days after release at US$237 Million and change. These four films are the only ones to break the US$200 Million mark so far, although Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire got close at upwards of US$198 Million.

Disappointing returns for The Fall Guy and Civil War have led to The Fall Guy getting an early streaming release today.

A 4K SteelBook was announced for TWISTER (1996) about two weeks ago. Good news! its also getting a Standard release on July 9th in The States. Its a Warner Bros. title, which means that there is a good chance that we will get it over here through Roadshow Entertainment. I can live without the SteelBook, but it would be nice to get that here too.

If anyone is still into 3D films; Amazon AU have a great deal on the UK 3D/2D 4-Disc set of Avatar: The Way of Water [AU22.73]. Make your order up to AU$59 for free shipping. The Creator (2023) UK Edition is down to AU35.59, which is a Fox title not available here. Its also in an -8% buy 2 promotion, which includes Prey [AU$30] and Titanic [AU$37] 4K's. Both unavailable in NZ.

EDIT: I couldn't resist. Bought Titanic and The Creator. the -8% saved me another AU$6.

Sorry, I got the name wrong. It's Karl Lock 😊

I received a couple more movies today, which now puts my 4K blu-ray collection at 150. I only really started collecting properly back last June when I only had 5 or 6 4K movies. I have about 14 more 4K movies on the way or pre-ordered and my current bookcase where I have them displayed won't fit them all, so I really need to seriously look at buying a new bookcase.

I have five Ikea "Billy" bookcases that seem to do the trick. The back is a bit thin but if you push it up against the wall then it doesn't matter too much.

I googled these and they look perfect for my needs. And surprisingly cheap! Thanks Behodar!

Your interesting post made me curious, as we were in much the same situation - with about 15 4k titles owned in early Sept last year.

Just did a quick count and we’re at 172 4k titles, with another 22 4k titles presently en route via post.

I was quite fearful of the availability of titles - as it did seem 4k physical media itself was in jeopardy - so we supercharged our purchases!

I feel much more comfortable now regards the survival of the format.

Cheers!

Seeing as everyone is counting their 4K titles, I just counted mine. 167, including titles “on their way”.
I count trilogies etc as 3 titles.

*Looks at my 38 with shame* [Edit: Oh, plus The Mandalorian which is in a different bookcase since it's not a movie]

Not that I even play them! When they're only a few dollars more than the Blu-ray I tend to get them for future-proofing, but my projector is only 1080p. Every now and then I look at the prices of new projectors and get scared off.

Theoretically I can play them on my TV, but it's only something like 55" compared to the 133" projector screen, so I haven't bothered. I also have a 5k HDR iMac but there doesn't seem to be any reliable playback software.

I've put The Beekeeper and Wonka SteelBook Edition into my cart in anticipation of the sale happening. Hoping that they will ship these to NZ.

I’d love a quality native 4k projector setup, but the pricing is a bit beyond our means at present.

We watch our films on an older Sony 95F 55” TV, which is fine in the bedroom. Probably a bit small for the lounge - which has a 65” plasma for 2k or 3D viewing (still love the 3D films!)

We’re keeping an eye on either a 77” or 65” Sony 95L once their prices drop either in 2025 or 2026. We’re not sure which size we’ll settle on.

Cheers!
