THE RAID (2011) Slipcase Edition

Release Date Australia: July 3rd • Release Date NZ: TBA.

Showcasing some of the best Asian martial-arts choreography of recent years, THE RAID follows a special forces team as they launch a daring raid on a rundown Jakarta apartment complex controlled by a ruthless crime lord named Tama Riyadi. The team's mission to apprehend Tama and dismantle his criminal empire quickly goes awry when they are discovered by Tama's henchmen, who seal off the building and trap the officers inside. Amid the chaos, rookie officer Rama emerges as the protagonist. Showcasing remarkable combat skills, he forms uneasy alliances with tenants and confronts Tama's enforcers, including the fearsome Mad Dog, as the body count rises. Praised for its innovative approach to martial arts cinema, with its breathtaking choreography and gritty realism, the film has earned acclaim from audiences and critics alike. THE RAID is pulse-pounding action and intense character-driven drama, standing as a modern classic in the genre and solidifying Gareth Evans' reputation as a master of action filmmaking.

Look's like Obi-Wan and Andor 4K steelbooks have been removed from JBNZ's website, I assume these sold out?

Yeah maybe they did, I can't imagine why else they would disappear.

I’ve messaged Karl. I expect it’s supply problems again. He should wait until he has them in hand before listing them. But I could be wrong 🤔
Edit: I was wrong… again 😁. His reply was “sold out for now”

I ordered a copy of each and they shipped out and arrived early yesterday. Was just looking at the JBNZ website and thought it was odd they were already delisted.

Was going to wait for Mando but now I think I'll jump on them and pre order so I don't miss out

Fantastic they're getting sold through, will hopefully greenlight more being imported.

I'm hoping we see Loki at some point.

Yes, it’s good to know that they are selling. These US Imports are in very limited supply, so if anyone wants a Mandalorian, don’t wait too long.

JB sale $51.98 for the Abyss 4k US import, what an absolute steal!

I paid $90 on the ‘bay back when it seemed supply would run out and the UK refused to release. (Cameron has stated the rat didn’t suffer any harm, breathing in the oxygenated fluorocarbon fluid, but the UK censors disagreed).

I‘ve picked up Titanic also, but not Aliens or True Lies based on the reviews I’ve read.

If anyone owns TL and Aliens and are super-happy with them, it would be interesting to hear the feedback.

Cheers!

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that it will release a 4K Blu-ray SteelBook Edition of Nicolas Winding Refn's DRIVE (2011), starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, and Oscar Isaac. The release is scheduled to arrive on the US market on August 27. This is one of my favourite films, and I already own the UK HMV exclusive Blu-ray SteelBook from a few years back. So, I'm hoping for a standard release as well, to insert into my old SteelBook. It was one of those Steels that had no or poor artwork on the inside, so I inserted my own which looks so much better. Something I did quite often back in the day 😁.

Anyway, here is the new US artwork:

Dolby Vision/HDR10 • Dolby Atmos/Dolby True HD 7.1/DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 • 2.39:1 • 100 Minutes

MAD MAX: 5-Film Collection • DigiPak • No Release Date

Honestly, I'm quite happy with Aliens.

Yeah you can tell it's been DNRed. But I think it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

The picture quality is 'good'; like, for example, I think if you showed it to friends and family who aren't as astute with the values us 4k afficionados generally share (film grain etc.), they'd be blown away by how such an old movie looks so clean and detailed - Not realising that's part of what people don't like about it. If that makes sense.

But if you hated, say, LOTR 4k release, you probably won't like this one either.

Thanks very much for your input!

This is what I’ve read - that it’s ultimately down to personal preference on likability. I may have to just buy it and decide for myself.

Thanks again 👍
