To be fair the Panasonic model is much more expensive than the Samsung version. Going on overseas prices it was always going to be over $1,000.

I still think the Samsung will be around the $600 - $700 NZD mark.

Ha, knew the first player wouldn't be under a grand.  Typical NZ dealers.  Giving us the middle finger.

$1999 at Rapallo what a bargain :P

I don't know where they got that from. The actual price is $1199. I'm going to try and pick one up this weekend. The Samsung I have works great, but the remote is driving me bonkers. So fiddly, and it uses a button cell battery so doesn't play nice with my x-ray extender system (which is important as all of my equipment is tucked away behind the seating position).

I had a look in St Lukes Noel Leeming (Mega Centre) and the nearby JB Hifi today and no sign of the Panasonic players. JB Hifi website still saying "coming soon" - must be on a slow boat. At this rate probably better off holding out for the Xbox One S console.

Both JB's and Noel's @ Sylvia Park had the players (JB's had a few, Noel's looked like they had an open box).

The UHD discs for sale @ JB's mean that the UHD HDR dream is finally alive for the lucky few!

Found the DMP-UB900 at JB Hifi Wairau Park this morning, retailing at $1198 + 2 free movies. All 4k movies were at their standard RRP. Think I will wait until the new model Xbox One comes out in August and see how that handles the 4K player output.

But will the new XBox handle the lossless audio codecs?

Dolby True HD / DTS Master HD / DTS:X and Dolby ATMOS are yet to be confirmed...

Managed to find some more concrete info on the audio capabilities of the Xbox One S:

http://www.entertainmentbuddha.com/xbox-one-s-is-a-cheap-entry-level-4k-blu-ray-uhd-player-but-not-for-audiophiles/

Seems to be that it doesn't support Dolby True HD or Atmos - you get what you pay for.

Looks like I am off to buy the Panasonic player later in the week.

It should do it via PCM though?  and your receiver would do the work..

Ahh yes you are correct, my mistake.  Bitstream is when the receiver decodes the track.
