Chuck on a version 2 chromecast and you're halfway there for the smarts, or an Xbox One S.

As long as the image quality is ok, I don't see much of an issue with these. 3 year warranty too on Veons. Ideal if you run your sound through something else anyway.

Veon 65 inch 4k UHD TV model SRO654K2016. (paid $999).

Bought this a couple of weeks ago. My assessment, as compared to my Sony 55in 2YO TV.

Picture Quality: Better and sharper, vivid colours, reasonable blacks. I'm no serious geek, though found picture as good if not better than most of the branded $2000+ TV.

Sound Quality: Adequate if you have a smaller room. Though I connected a Veon Sound bar ($99 Bluetooth 2.0), could not get to work via HDMI, so connected it via AV/AUX.

Remote Control: Better than I expected, quite stylish, little annoying you need to press OK after selecting source.

PRV: Only seems to be able to record on the fly, what you are watching on DTV, (Wont record other inputs). I was not able to setup delayed recording, programmed recording. Though not so important in my situation.

Sky/TiVo Connectivity: Works fine, will probably need to upgrade freeview recorder, when TiVo finishes?

Smart Capability: NONE, though again not necessary in my situation (see below). Unfortunately this TV does not support Bluetooth.

PC Connectivity: Excellent, especially as the sound bar works perfectly via PCs Bluetooth capability.

Overall generally very happy with this purchase. Great picture (for the money). Drawbacks, RC limitations, mediocre sound, Lack of Bluetooth, limited recording functionality.

I have a Sony soundbar, you need to connect it to HDMI 1 on the Veon (that is the ARC port). Works fine (including remote). I also have Roku Ultra hooked up, shows off the 4K beautiful with Youtube streams. The only downside is the 4K TV shows how bad SkyTV is in quality.

That's strange, i find my tv improves non 4k images, but maybe I'm not so fussy

Have you tried a 4K source yet? When you go from a 4K youtube stream to an HD youtube stream you really notice it. Then when you got to Sky it looks like someone vomited up a 1990s mpeg codec (a lot of Sky content is only SD - 576p).

I just bought a 55inch UHD 4k veon...

not sure how to tell if netflix is playing at 4k. I tried some 4k content (and signed up to the premium package and have it going through a chromecast ultra).

4k youtube works, but how do I confirm netflix content is 4k? (I tried 'el chapo' and 'moving colors' or some crap).

also - any clue on which HDMI ports are funky? (ARC / HDCP 2.2) I have chromecast ultra in port 1, but there's no documentation anywhere for these veons

my samsung tv has an info button, tells what the source resolution and framerate is.

I'd be keen to get some feedback from anyone whose bought one recently. On sale again (just today) for $999 are the 65" 4k Veons. Won't be buying one today, but definitely considering one in the future. Also really keen to see what people think of the ?new Veon Smart TVs running Android 4.4.4 I think? Might wait and see what people say about these - especially if they start releasing larger versions!

Do these TV's have a game mode? I heard that there is an 8ms response time. That's pretty damn good for a big screen TV.

read it was android 4.4 or something equally dinosaur.

Also the smaller "smart" veons did the thing where the UI is rendered at a really low res and then scaled, so all the text and stuff looks blurry and gross. Better to get a dumb one and add a mi tv box or similar which does a much sharper output. Or a PS Pro which I find has excelent text rendering at proper 4k.

I got one a couple of days ago and it is impressive indeed. It was a replacement for a Veon 60" we had that had a ARC issue. The picture on this is stunning when watching You tube 4K via Chromecast. A couple of things are annoying me though. First, I have a surround Sound hooked up via audio out. The problem is that I have yet to find a way to turn off the TV speaker and the TV remote turns up the TV volume and the surround sound. Another is that when the switch is turned off on the wall, the TV loses all of it's channel settings and it needs to rescan again for channels. Probably a setting I have missed some where.

Does it have a headphone socket? If so, just get the right size headphone plug and put it in the socket to silence the TV speakers.

Wow, I wasn't in the market but all of a sudden I'm interested. New uber Xbox coming out at the end of the year which would go nicely with this I think.
