There's a volume button on the side of the remote?

Umm so likely totally missed this (hangs head in shame)

I would actually prefer the volume buttons on the top. The remote is very slippery and it's not easy to press the buttons (well I find it trick compared with the Firestick 4K remote)

Does anyone know if this Dell Universal Dock can be used on the CCwGTV? A friend has it docked to his laptop.

Dell Universal Dock - D6000 | Dell New Zealand

Will it end up frying the Chromecast? Thanks.

Its got a displaylink chip, so really for devices that dont have display pass through on USB-C. This may cause the CC to get upset (unrecognised device etc).

Just an update on this. I connected the Dell D6000 to the Chromecast and it all worked fine with the external USB flash drive, wireless keyboard USB dongle except that there is no audio coming out of the TV. This Dell dock has a 3.5mm audio output and there was audio from the headphone plugged in. So the audio must have routed through to the dock. Have not found a solution yet.

thanks guys, this has been an informative thread.

I'll be waiting for someone like PB Tech to stock the CCwGTV. Kogan AU wouldn't take a NZ a delivery address and Kogan/DSE nor JBHiFi NZ aren't stocking it yet.

I don't mind waiting, I'm currently using a VF TV and casting Disney+ and SkySportNow from my PC or Phone to my TV's ver1 CC.

In the meantime, I know I will want to the new CC to use Ethernet rather than wifi (I'm trying to utlise Ethernet on all non-mobile devices in my home) so I've ordered a USB-C to Ethernet adapter from PB Tech:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/KVMSTT3302353/StarTech-USB-C-to-Ethernet-Adapter---Gigabit---3-P

I have good confidence that a 3rd part adapter like this will work because

  1. the U in USB stands for Universal and
  2. Google tends to build standards compliant devices and
  3. I'm currently using a 3rd party adapter on my ver1 CC.

Not showing on their website yet....

EDIT: Assuming it's official sale rather than a parallel import.

What sort of power supply did it come with?

I suppose I mean was it a google labelled USB adapter with NZ/AUS plug or a third party USB adapter?

ie do you think it was the AUS model?

For anybody who has one already. Does anyone know of a USB-C adapter that supports Ethernet? I would like to put my device on a wired network and not use Wi-Fi but the adapter bought from eBay while working on a Chromebook for Ethernet didn't work on the Chromecast.

Thanks for the tip about Expert Infotech. I picked up one today.

Seems like a good price. As far as I can see they are about $99-100 in Australia, so $110 here is pretty close.

It came with a USA USB adapter in the box - and its looks like the USA sourced model.

They gave me a Samsung Fast charger - so a decent USB power source.

It can be a little Easter project to set it up.

It will probably replace my Gen One Amazon Fire TV which is getting on for 6-7 years old.

I want to do the same. Google has a USB-C - Ethernet adapter available but isn't yet selling in NZ.

https://www.androidcentral.com/does-chromecast-google-tv-support-ethernet

There are 3rd party adapters that will work, but make sure their power output is enough for the GCCWGTV. This new CC has a higher power requirement than the previous ones. Please refer:

https://www.androidcentral.com/best-usb-c-hub-chromecast-google-tv

I've gone for the Vermont model, in on it's way from Amazon so I can't personally vouch for it yet

no problem. Expert Infotech let me down a bit. They sent a AU/NZ usb wall power adapter that didn't output enough power for the CC, so they're in the process of sending me another. In the meantime, I'm using a power adapter from a spare Google wifi device.

The replacement from Expert Infotech in my case shouldn't be absolutely necessary as I intend to power the CC from an USB-C - Ethernet adapter (see above0

it came with both a US and AU/NZ power adapter but see above, the AU/NZ one wasn't compatible with the power requirements of the CC, so Expert Infotech are sending me a new one.

I'm not sure if it was a US or AUS model I rec'd but, apart from needing the correct the power adapter, it really doesn't matter. As far as I can tell the only difference between models intended for different countries is the pre-loaded apps, and apps can be deleted or installed quite easily.

Weird. Mine, came with a Google branded one so I suspect Expert Infotech are supplying generic ones - which means they arent the AU model? Not that it matters (I have several older US chromecasts).

BTW I ordered a replacement power supply off Aliexpress that includes ethernet. It looks like the offical one.

Also, for bonus points, did you know you can pair bluetooth headphones to the device and have audio go the the headphones? Im genuinely so impressed with this device.
